Anyone know how to make an ultra quiet pellet catcher box? Or what material is best for outdoor..

My box is making way too much noise..it sounds like a heavy nail gun everytime i hit...

I can see my neighbours looking at their window trying to find out where the sound is coming from.. while i hide in my backyard behind the barbecue grill .. for now they probably just think it's a nail gun.

Any ideas are welcome

I've used plumbers putty. It works pretty good.

I am running a similar box with a sheet of cardboard completely covering the front.
My steel plate is held in place by wood and that might be why pellets striking it make no noticeable noise over the gun's discharge and that is shooting it with PAL rifles.
I suggest you cover the back of your steel plate with cardboard which might or should deaden the noise. If that doesn't work, then cover it with wood. You need something
it sounds like, to deaden the sound/vibration.
Gluing on egg-crate foam might also work, but since it's outside, I would try the wood, personally.
1st is the back view, second is from the front with cardboard removed.

Hang some carpet around it, and play loud music.

Didn't think of that, but carpet would also work, I suppose - back surface and sides. Contact cement.

I've got a box filled with rubber mulch. Dead quiet.

1" of so duct seal as a backer. I don't bother running a steel plate behind, just the 3/4" rough pine of the box itself. No noise of the pellet hitting the seal. No pellet evaporating on impact. No issues with penetration with 20fpe. A huge clump of lead does form after a while but it's pretty cool.

This.

There was a thread I read a while ago where a guy made a target backstop with duct seal like a dartboard with doors on it. He had it on a wall in his basement rec room. The doors had storage for targets/pellets.

Yep~ I don't bother cleaning out the lead now and waiting to see when this lead chunk fall out by itself and weight it ~ [emoji38]

Duct seal from electrical section. Use the full one inch bars. Likely cost about $60 to line a trap that size. Been shooting mine for 5 years and no plan to change duct seal anytime soon. You will always hear the smack of the cardboard or even a target. Best would be talk to your nabors if you get along and explain how safe you are about it and your trap captures all the pellets. good Luck. CHEERS!

and fill it with duct putty

The cabinet is about 3.5 inches deep.

This looks good~ I am still using my cookie box which filled with duct-seal. However after time goes, the top lip is not more able to cap on again... :)

That case is a lot more expensive than what most have but definitely useable. I think most use something like rob g, a couple of scrap boards of whatever type screwed, nailed, glued or whatever together and a replaceable cardboard face to attach targets to.

Shooting into the steel backed box, none of the pellets "evaporating on impact" - that sounds like an inflamatory-type statement a politician might make.
Matters not which gun I shoot, from PCP's to the HW80 in .177.

Evaporate could be associated with a health risk which if any would be minimal. Daryl is right. Poor choice of wording. Break into many small pieces is more accurate.
