I watched that .600 Nitro SS Pistol video at 1/4 speed.... it comes VERY close to hitting his forehead, if not actually doing so....

Yeah - it does. There was another guy shot it, couldn't find the video, but an bearded older chap, the range warden I think it was.
He was going to shoot it one handed and the owner said 2 hands. Well he did and had a very light grip on the gun. When it went off,
it flew out of his hands which barely moved at all, and flew 'just' past his right ear, disappearing over his shoulder, then "clack" "clack"
on the concrete.
Apparently the load was a 1,400fps load with the 900gr. bullet. Typing that & thinking about it, was hard on my old arthritic wrist.

Holy hell can that Jerry guy shoot  that's crazy.
And that .600, definitely looks like it slapped him pretty good. His feet were scurrying so fast he almost went over

Check out the "B" drills with 3 guns, 18 rounds, middle of this video.

His test media footage is pretty good as well. The .44's still puts out
even though it's not the most powerful any more.

Man what a life that Gary miculex has. Shooting guns for money. Must be a terrible way to live

I'd shoot that 600, at least once. Not so sure about plinking with it though.

I did shoot my buddy's 45-70, he had it loaded with some nuclear bear load he called it. Was a 500gr cast bullet loaded to 2000fps.
Marlin sbl. Pretty sure the gun had a stretched receiver. But we were drinking and messing around with guns. Good times.
I shot that thing, thinking how bad can it be?
Well I lost my grip with my trigger hand and managed to slice my trigger finger wide open with the trigger blade.
I blame the drinking :drinkers:

Yikes - the "heavy recoilers" are a thing of the past for me.
I've sold my .458 and now only have the heavy, 9 1/2 pounds .375/06IMP. That's quite enough and it has a brake now, built and adjusted for my
300gr. loads.
I do have a couple .45's, a .45 1.9" chambering on my Sharps (11 1/2 pounds) -it's virtually a long throated .45/60 with 525gr. bullets at 1,650fps.
with smokeless and 405's at 1,850fps (due to it's 30" bl.).
My .45/70 is a Pedersoli Model1886/71 - it gets similar loads to the longer barreled Sharps, but in it's 24" bl. - same overall length.
The .50/95 Uberti Model 1876Winchester, 28" bl. gets 368's at 1,650fps with smokeless and 1,640fps with black powder and it's a peach to shoot. 10 pound rifle.

A 2000fps load with 500gr. in a .45/70 Marlin is way over 10,000psi overloaded for a Marlin. At 1,800fps according to Hornady's Modern Action loads at 50,000cup
which is about (60,000psi). I have no idea what 2,000fps loads at 2.55" OAL would be - certainly well over 65,000psi.
Some people foolishly push things into the Ether Zone. As there is no known data for a .45/70 pushing 500gr. at 2,000fps, it is quite possible this is a hot-air estimate.
The case actually does not have the capacity at a 2.55" AOL to push a 500gr. bullet that fast.

Yeah I don't doubt that at all. Just what buddy told me, I didn't look it up as I never got too curious about it. It hurt pretty good though that's all I know.

At the speed the loading length could give the 500gr., I would expect up to 1,600fps, the Marlin will belt you pretty good.
A 400gr. can be driven to just about 2,000fps and THAT will kick like you just don't want to shoot any more.

405gr at 2000fps is my load with the barnes dangerous game bullets. It's not unbearable but not pleasant at all. Damn good bullets though, and expensive. $1.75 a round

You mean the 400gr. Barnes Buster?
Heck of a good bullet. I'd have thought they'd be closer to $3.00 ea.
just for the bullets.

Are they 400s... I donno I shoot the barnes Busters and campro bulk, campro must be 405gr.
The Busters are pretty unreal. I feel a certain sense of security when I'm packing those.

 you're right on the cost. Somehow in my head I had it worked out backwards. Ah well. Tested a handful on some trees and rocks. Pie plate at 100 yards is toast. So if I ever get attacked by a wild pie plate, I know I'm good. Well it depends on how fast they move.... Now, minute of bear, is that a time or distance measurement. Or a coefficient of both...

Best load my bro had with this Sharps, was a 560gr. Bluff nosed Lyman bullet #462560, loaded with 110gr. 3F GOEX.
The velocity was only about 1,350fps, but 3 successive shots exited a 3' diameter Spruce tree.
The modern smokeless loads in the much shorter .45/70 out-do the buffalo rounds of yesteryear by quite a stroke.
Here's mine, a model 1886/71. It will do 1,800fps with 500gr. bullets, safely taking a little more pressure than the
model 1895 Marlin. However, there are flies on the Marlin. I've owned 3 of them, a .444 and pair of .45/70's over the years.
Always kicked myself for selling the .444. It was a peach and ran 1-1/2" at 100 meters with 300gr. Speer and Hornadys at 2,200fps.
Scoped, of course.
