Good afternoon :)

I was hoping somebody could recommend a good gunsmith in Calgary and area please that might know their way around a PCP air rifle, in particular an Air Arms S510.

This new-to-me air rifle is empty of air and won't fill. :( The previous owner indicated that the last time this situation happened to him he took it to a gun smith who had to use a tool to set a valve at same time he filled the air tank (as long as air pressure is maintained in the tank the valve stays set). If I'm getting this filling problem addressed, I might as well get the rifle inspected at the same time. The rifle has a Lane Regulator installed but I don't think that's related to the problem.

Thanks for your time, and I hope you have a safe shooting weekend.

Did you try cocking it before you fill it?

Yes sir. Cocked and uncocked. The air just rushes out the barrel.

Are you using a hand pump or an air cylinder?
I had a couple guns that if emptied needed the large air burst from a tank in order to seat the seal and hold the air. Hand pump didn’t have enough jam.
I did have a pistol that if I pumped like a madman I could just get enough in for it to start to pressurize and seal.

Did it arrive this way from the previous owner?

Did they indicate it had this problem?

I’m sure there’s some Calgary people on here even that can help out.

Using an air cylinder just filled to 4300 psi. It looks like the fitting that screws into the valve body of the bottle has a flow-restricting orifice that prevents the kind of rush of high pressure air that you describe... probably a safety feature.

I'm reluctant to defeat this high pressure assembly and tear it apart. Seems unwise. LOL

If the gun went down to zero it most likely has a leak it's not very probable that someone shot it down to zero

It sat for at least a year unused.

So if it sat for a year how would you know when the air came out on the first or second day or the 363rd day there's no way to know the leak is a leak if it had no leaks it would still have the air in it

For what it's worth try cocking and dry firing a few times. I remember some gun I had I had to make sure it was cocked before I could fill it.

Dry fired several times empty. Dry fired several times with air rushing out the barrel. Nadda.

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions gents! No joy yet.

Any suggestions on a good PCP-experienced gunsmith in Calgary?

Wish I were closer , I’d be happy to help. From everything I hear of the AA rifles they are quite simple in design and easy to work on. You might want to get in touch with Travis at Airgunsource.ca , see if he has a reseal kit for the rifle and take it on by yourself.
