Hey fellow airgun enthusiasts. Just wanted to introduce myself. My first experience with airguns - like most of you - was as a kid with an old BB gun. I purchased a Gamo Varmint a few months ago to help with a squirrel problem at my house within the town limits.

To say it has been a frustrating airgun experience would be an understatement. The trigger is like nothing I've ever experienced before. It's incredibly inconsistent. I'm always waiting for it to go off; never quite knowing when. I'm pretty sure my neighbours - who have the same problem - think I'm the worse shot in the world. Somedays I wonder the same.

So now I'm in search of a more appropriate tool to help my cause and provide some much needed diversion in this shyt, mind numbing pandemic we're all in.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hello Andrew - welcome to the forum.
I'd check the rules/laws first, about discharging the air rifle in town.
Inexpensive springers can be difficult to shoot well, especially the high powered ones.

Hi and welcome.
Squirrels can be a darned nuisance, I understand why you need to be rid of them. If you have troubles controlling a spring gun, try a CO2 perhaps.

Yikes! These tree rats have destroyed two roof vents and birthed one family in my crawlspace so now it's war. We had them humanely removed the first go around but they don't seem to want to give up so, game on!

I did check with our local by-law officer and there are no explicit rules against airgun discharge in town so I should be OK. Plus my place borders a farm and a golf course so thankfully not a lot of traffic down here.

Perfect - For summer time (warm weather) shooting, I second the CO2 rifle.
I would, however, in the interest of humane destruction of squirrels, prefer a
P.A.L. rifle. Barring that and the CO2, a sub 500fps springer in .22 cal. and keep
the distances close, like 20yards close or closer.

Hey Daryl,

Yes, I've only been attempting a shot at less than 20 yards - usually 15 to 16 as they love our bird feeders. But I still miss their heads at least 7 out of 10 shots. That Gamo Varmint trigger is a nightmare! Lol

Yeah.... Before my garden really started to grow, I already seen holes here and there... But living in Toronto just a nightmare to discharge any gun... So I upgraded one of my beloved gun in the backyard and start training myself with slingshot then also just ordered a new fance one... Hopes these could let the squirrels leave my garden alone... YepYep - hitting a squirrel with that, if someone happened to see that, maybe if they just see you shooting at a squirrel with the
sling shot, if reported and followed up by Police, could elicit a charge of Cruelty to Animals. That is a criminal code offense, punishable
as a summary conviction offense, which used to be up to $3,000.00 and/or 3(6?) months in jail. The penalty have changed since the 1970's,
however.

Nice looking slingshot, BTW. I've been interested in one of those with flat bands, myself. Where did you get it from, Please?
I have a "wrist rocket", but this one looks really nice.

That's to drive them away... How about those guys use airsoft guns on them? That might due more harms especially I will use the mud balls not steel bearings which is coming with the slingshot too...

Practice on pop cans now... Got a cheap one from last order and found myself looks got a very little bit talent on using slingshot ~ [emoji38]

Ordered it from Aliexpress, not the cheapo one anymore this time but also not those fancy high end ones... Details send to you by. PM~

Though of buying this too before I bought the cheapo one (CAD 2.53) from Aliexpress to test water. However I was hesitated for the bad reviwws...

And in the researching, I doubt the said 'magmun' rubber band is just for the US and in Canada we can only get the weakered rubber bands. Anyway I know using a slingshot is much different from using an airgun with trigger system now. You need to pull and hold when you aiming before let go... A magnum rubber band is just useless in my hands before building up the muscles I need...
