Starting to think about participating in FT in the coming years. Planning and buying parts I may never use. We've all been there. With the piston hunter class in mind has anyone had experience with the compact version of the airmax 30's? How would it compare to the non compact version? Seems like there are a lot less stock and options in Canada these days. Compacts are available at this time, standards are not. Would there be a better option around the same price point like Sightron?

just sent back a airmax 30 regular to airguns source new in box as I bought a couple of

falcon x50 I think from Robbie out of Calgary to keep my 3 guns scoped the same

they were around 1500 tax paid shipped, you might have to order 2 if still available

nice scopes with wheel and large turret as nice as the sightron and I have one of those as well

Interesting. Which version of the airmax 30 did you return? I can keep an eye out for it if they resell on the ags site. I've seen the falcon offering. Seems like a good deal and I've been tempted for sure but it's quite the commitment for something I may or may not do. My plan is try piston HFT and see where it goes. I have a TX200 mk3 and wanted to upgrade the optics. Currently a 4-12 40 airmax. The 1" tube version. The airmax 30 stuff seemed like a good step up but I'm definitely open to suggestions. If the falcon or sightron is the right choice I'll give that more consideration.

If you are interested in HFT, the the 4-16 AirMax is plenty good enough. That is what I have on my hunter TX. You cannot use more than 16X in hunter anyway.

The big falcons/Sightrons are for Open FT or WFTF division. I have a Sightron on my WFTF TX and really like it.

Sorry a bit off topic but it will help determine the scope purchase. Are side wheels and/or distance markings allowed in HFT? I saw some discussions on the caft forum but I did not see any rulings.

You can adjust your parallax for focus but the numbers must be covered in Hunter class. Open and wftf classes can use the parallax for range finding.

Understood but are side wheels allowed in HFT with no markings.

There are no rules restricting the side wheel for hunter class as long as it isn't being used for rangefinding. I have a side wheel for my Sidewinder (came with the scope) but never mounted it as it serves no purpose apart from maybe turning the parallax knob easier. IMO the side wheel just gets in the way when casing the rifle and isn't worth the aggravation if I'm not using it.

The cafta rules can be found here: https://www.ftcentral.com/viewtopic.php?t=475

Excellent and thank you for clearing that up for me.
