My dad taught me to shoot with a .22 BSA air rifle in the court yard of the farm when I was 4 years old. Sadly we where only renting the house so we moved on to less gun friendly areas. Approximately 50 years later and after a lot of burnt gun powder I'm suddenly digging out the old 1322, 2240, Slavia .177 630/77, Slavia .177 624, and a Chinese .22 air rifle (B5-1 I think) version of the type 81 military rifle. Oiling and cleaning them and rediscovering the fun of cheap shooting.
I've gone on a bit of an online shopping bender and ordered a .22 SPA WF600 (aka B3-4)($118 shipped), it appears to be very similar to the type 81 trainer (which is a great shooter) but with much better ergonomics. The type 81 trainer is horrid to hold and shoot and makes a mess of the web between my thumb and finger of my right hand, the stock is also about 4 inches too short for me. The scope rail is also junk and a scope will not stay zeroed on it, the iron sights are accurate.
I was also ordering parts to make a carbine/rifle out of the 2240 but discovered on this site (google search lead me here) that it would still be a pistol even with the shoulder stock and long barrel. I'm going ahead with this project but have now also ordered a 2260 main tube to replace the 2240 main tube. I'm hoping to get a 700fps ish .22 carbine/rifle out of this when done. If that works out I'll look at adding a magazine to to it as well.
Thanks for all the good info I have found and will find on this site.
