From what I could find out from Crosman the Vantage is a less fancy Nitro Venom, same performance (same nitro piston etc...) just a plainer stock, no picatinny rail (11mm dovetail in stead), but it does have iron (ok plastic) sights.

The Vantage appears to have the old Crosman Quest stock. Similar to the Optimus but the forestock has a bit more depth and drops down the front of the trigger guard a bit (Weihrauch style). I found the stock design comfortable.

The only NP rifle I have is the .177cal Fury NP. It shoots great and I like the firing behaviour. No spring to twang and the shot cycle is quick. I'm getting 920fps with CPHP. The rifle is many years old, has seen lots of pellets but it's still shooting fast. Cocking effort is a bit high but it's very smooth so I have no problems at all.

I'm curious to see how long the Crosman strut lasts. Mine doesn't seem to have lost any power at all. I guess one day it will blow but I noticed that replacements are available.

This gun is pretty good $100 gun. It’s definitely a can shredder. I’ve been running hollow points threw it, 20/30 yard with a few adjustments [emoji457].

I received my Crosman Vantage Nitro 22 today. Build quality looks good for the price. Canada post manhandled it a bit, and there's a small dent on the wood stock but not the end of the world. I haven't shot it yet. Looks very similar to my Crosman Quest in 177.

Mine just arrived today as well. I haven't bought a break action rifle since the 1980's and compared to those this seems very nice. The butt pad is nice, the stock is very nice (I wouldn't have guessed is was Chinese), the only thing I would say is not great is the sights. While they are nice to use I'm not sure I trust the fact they are plastic, I guess time will tell on that one.

I now need to decide if I'll put a scope on it or try to find a receiver mounted peep sight.

As for shooting it I suspect it might be too powerful to shoot in the basement so I'll likely have to take a drive.

Does anyone know if it is safe to defeat the bear trap thing on this? I've never shot a break action that doesn't let you de-cock by holding the trigger back while holding onto the barrel and easing it back in to battery. The owners manual (yes I read it) says it can't be de-cocked so I assume it has this the bear trap thing.

I have 3 of the B18 rifles and removed the simple anti-bear trap mechanism on all of them. I like to be able to decock a rifle.

Managed a short range test... I like it! quieter and smoother than expected. Trigger could use some work but I don't mind it. Accuracy with the irons seems good shooting off hand at ~6m. Average velocity with princessauto grizzly pellets was 660fps.

I had bought two of these on sale and tonight I tried out the second one. The first one needed a fair bit of adjusting the sights to get it zeroed, the second was dead on right out of the box. The second one also has slightly nice wood on it and it averaged slightly faster at 671fps (14.2gr pellet). I'm temped to get a .177 barrel for one but I see they are out of stock at Crossman.ca right now. For an all in cost of ~$133 I'm very happy with them. This might in part be because I haven't bought a break barrel since the Slavia 630/77 I got at the Army and Navy back in the mid 80's. I like my old Slavia but these nitro pistons are so smooth and powerful in comparison. Trigger seems better on the second one to.

Keeping in mind nitro pistons are hard on scopes. Pick on that is springer rated.


Sure, drive out for more range but you'll be just fine in the basement too. Look up traps made with duct seal.

I have some airguns.

I like what jckstrthmghty gave for advice. I have a couple of examples to add.

My Fury NP has a snappy recoil and I like the feel. However, the scope doesn't like it. I mounted a UTG 4X True Strength scope a few years ago and it did well until this summer. All of a sudden the POI has been moving left/right. I sight-in the rifle and all is well for a while and then POI moves 12 clicks right at 50 yards. I adjust the scope and start making hits again. A while later it moves 12 clicks to the left so I readjust. This pattern repeats. The scope adjustments are not holding anymore but the True Strength scopes are meant to be springer rated. The barrel hinge is tight and the rifle still shoots tight groups as long as you are not shooting a group when the adjustments jump.

I made a duct seal pellet trap 21 years ago and it's still working fine. The price of duct seal has increased quite a bit since 2000 but it lasts forever. Two layers will stop .177cal at 920fps. You dig out the pellets after they accumulate and smooth over the putty. This can be a pain in the butt but it comes with the benefit of having a small trap that works well.
