I got this little shooter a while ago and stuck it on the shelf when it began to act up. Had it from new and only a couple hundred bbs through it.

More often than not, it is a single shot gun. Even on a new co2 it's like the gun doesn't have enough juice to rack the slide. But then randomly here and there it will work great for 5 or 6 shots then gummed up again. Tried different holding styles, different ways to act on the trigger, different magazines, took it apart for a clean/lube, summer/winter doesn't matter.

Any idea on the issue? Has lots of power when it shoots

I have a Umarex HPP which is the same internals but with a SIG 229ish look.
Looks like you may experience an incomplete co2 puncture hole. Check an empty cartridge if you have a clean hole. Try to screw it in very tight.
You may want to try a different brand of co2. They are slight manufacturing differences. Some might perform better.

I love mine. Heavy blowback. Accurate enough for IPSC style shooting. High shot count.

sounds like you have a small leak for the blowback feature
your not getting enough pressure to function, or the little tab
that brings it back is worn down and catches occasionally

i have a similar issue on a 5501 (bought jan 2015)..
but mine is now 100% single action cycle.
a mag-fed SAA if you would.

i had the slide off once to see that's it's a simple part that appears to have broken (dec 2019) due to the awesome hard-feeling blow back...

if i recall correctly it's an easy part replacement, an easy fix, and done already, if i had any gumption.

i enjoyed/missed the first one so much i bought new second one just this past mar/2021 and it is currently locked n loaded for playtime shooting dead soldiers..

i have set the following aside to have repaired,
one day.

5501, mechanical
C40, leaks out the valve
Defender, co2 seal leaks
2240, needs frt sight
150, needs CO2 cap
_____________
S.O.S.
save our shooters

I think the leak idea is the one. This morning I opened it up again and got in a 'fix it or f it' mood. I started to dremmel all the touching metal around the 'carrier' and 'hammer'. Clipped a coil off the spring. Lucas red on the moving parts and put er back together. The tolerances are definately way looser - I can cock the gun by flicking my wrist back now. But it still won't load itself, stuck on single shot mode.
