Found a couple of intersting videos of one guys work on his B3-4 aka the WF600. He got his rifle to sit right in the 499fps range with a Titan XS spring and a pair of derilin washers. I think the Titan spring must be the #11 because it is the only one that is the right size based on the Titan data I could find.

The wind was very minimal today so I took the WF-600 out for some 50 yard benchrest shooting/testing. When I started the shooting session there was a tiny bit of wind that would shimmer the leaves and give a slight puff on my cheek. Surprisingly, this little air movement was enough to cause flyers at 50 yards. I guess the slow moving pellet is quite sensitive. Sometimes I could actually see the pellet about a foot from the target and making contact with the target. After a while it got dead calm so I started the serious group shooting.

8.44gr JSB Exact from 50 yards.

Groups - 1.26, 2.01, 1.12, 1.81, 1.60, 1.95, 1.41, 1.80, 1.60, 1.88 --- Average = 1.64" ctc

Velocity with 8.44gr - 568, 567, 570, 570, 568 fps --- Average = 569fps

This unchoked rifle has a definite bias towards the JSB Exact pellet shape. I tried the H&N FTT and H&N Finale Match this afternoon but they shot poorly in comparison. The 50 yard distance easily indicates the better performing pellets for a rifle. My next step would be to compare the 7.33gr and 7.87gr JSB Exact to see if the rifle has a preference for one weight. Unfortunately I ran out of both lighter weights.

More so than weight, is likely the different diameters JSB's are available in.
I found the Cometa (JSB-green-tin) 8.44's to shoot about identically, in both 4.51"mm and 4.52mm.

The Exact 8.44gr that I'm shooting now are from Pyramyd Air from many years ago. I started shooting the JSB Exact back around 2001 and they were excellent back then (from Illingworth Imports). When Scott closed up I got the same great quality from Pyramyd Air for a few years. Then I got stuck with some undersized JSB Exact from a couple of dealers and gave up on them. The WF-600 seems to shoot them okay so I might risk ordering more with hopes of getting true 4.52mm size rather than mislabeled 4.45-4.47mm. The Exact is an excellent pellet design so I hope they figured out the QC issue. It's been a lot of years since I ordered them.

In my initial testing with the WF-600 the 7.87gr seemed a bit more accurate than the 8.44 grain. Since then I installed the piston liner, smoothed out the trigger and launched about a thousand rounds through the barrel.

The 7.87gr looks identical to the 7.33gr when they are standing side-by-side. The difference seems to be the slightly wider skirt cavity on the 7.33gr. It sure is a short pellet!

I might have to get serious at some point, so far I've been happy with minute of squirrel from my WF600 (standing unsupported).

SIMPLE VELOCITY INCREASE

After the tune the velocity on my WF-600 was in 580s for quite a while (8.0gr pellet) but it slowly dropped down to the 550s so I decided to have a look at the piston seal. A small crack was starting close to the middle of the seal face. I removed the seal, cleaned off all the lube with rubbing alcohol and held the seal up to a light. The crack was on the front of the seal and not quite all the way through to the inside. I have seen pics online from other B3 owners who have had bad seals crack in the center.

The WF-600 (aka B3) piston seal is not only a parachute seal but also a trampoline seal. The cheapest way for the manufacturer to make the seal post is to screw on that small stamped metal bowl. The bowl shape allows the mounting screw to hide below the top. Otherwise the manufacturer would have to machine a solid 1-piece unit with a proper flat top disc. Unfortunately, the concave seal post allows the unsupported seal face to bend inwards during the shot (robbing power). At first the new seal is strong enough to take the stress and the velocity is fine. After maybe a thousand shots, the seal weakens, flexes more and eventually cracks. The inside of the flexible seal has a groove for the post lip but there is also a short air space in front of this groove. This compounds the trampoline effect with more seal face flexing.

The easiest way to fix the poor design is to fill the post top (bowl) with epoxy and file it flat. This should drastically reduce the trampoline effect. I used epoxy and a small washer to fill in my post top (the bowl). Then I applied 2 thin coats of Superglue to the inside flat seal surface in an attempt to stop the crack from breaking through. Two small half-moon pieces of yogurt container were placed inside the seal to take up some further air space.

Yesterday the rifle was giving me about 555 fps with the .177cal H&N Sports. This rifle was once giving 585 fps with Sports.

Below is a shot string for the 8.0gr H&N Sports after the seal post modification (same spring, same piston seal & breach seal). That trampoline seal was obviously messing things up. Without the first shot, below I was got 16 fps variation which isn’t too terrible. The first shot brings it to 20 fps variation with this pellet. Other pellets may give tighter velocity numbers.

626, 636, 631, 645, 636, 646, 637, 630, 643, 639

This seal post design might be used on other Chinese air rifles. The simple epoxy modification should increase velocity and save the seal from breaking early.

Note - I forgot to take a pic of the unmodified seal post so I borrowed one from Another Airgun Blog. Credit given to Derrick.

Those JSB Green labeled Cometa pellets are marked as Match. They actually group 1/2 the side of the standard Exacts in the same sizes. When we're talking about 1/10" groups at 20 yards
rather than 2/10" to 1/4"groups, there isn't a LOT of difference, but it is there. I was shooting my HW97 in .177.

Sounds promising! Who has the Green labeled Cometa for sale and in stock?

The weather today was unusually nice so I decided to drag out the WF-600 for some long distance benchrest testing. This time all groups were shot with 4.50mm H&N Finale Match Rifle. Distances were 30 yards and 50 yards.

RESULTS
30 yards - .43, .83, .78, .56, .86 --- Average = 0.69"ctc

50 yards - 1.30, 1.37, 1.31, 1.50, 1.51, 1.65, 1.69, 1.72, 1.77, 2.05 --- Average = 1.59" ctc

This rifle shoots the 8.1gr pellets in the 630s. The flat top seal post sure gave some nice added speed for free. My next mod will likely be installing a Crosman piston seal (Gamo style). The thinner seal should give another velocity boost.

There are a few good threads on this air rifle and this one also delivers!

I'm in the market for a low budget non-pal air rifle to pass the time (stuck in-doors during the winter).
Since I'll be shooting in the basement I'm thinking the stock irons is all I will need.

The store (CSS) is about 45mins away so planning on doing a curb-side pickup in the near future.

My expectations aren't that high for such any inexpensive pellet rifle and I hope it's shootable out of the box with only minor prepping (cleaning, etc).
I don't plan on doing any tinkering but if it comes down to it I may have to engage in these threads to learn from you fine folks......:)

I've always bought them from D&L in the past. However the last 2 tins I bought from a local chap.
