Picked up an old Ruger M77 stainless iron sighted canoe paddle stocked 300wm a while ago. Just put an old VXIII 2.5-8x on it and sighted it in at the range today. Wonderful rifle, 1 moa with factory Remington 180gr core lokt right of the bat. Smacked the 200m gong around for some fun and practice. Once I was feeling a little punch drunk I broke out the 77/22 then the Crosman Vantage .22 to cool down. Feel great after a proper shooting outing. First time I've been to the range this year.

Glad you got out. Some of the Rugers shoot very well, not so well with others.
Another good load, is Winchester's Power Max 180gr. Bonded. Those as well as
the Remington 180 CoreLocts shot into the same sub 1/2" group from my
Browning .300 WMag.
With the MOA Vortex 4-16 with stadia wires, I got on the 1,000 meter full size buffalo
with only 2 shots.
The Winchester bullets and Remingtons appeared to have the same trajectory.

Nice rifle! I like the paddle stock Ruger.
Yeah you get good shooters, sometimes not so good.
I have a Tang safety 77, real sweet shooter.

Wonder if they offered the 77/357 (or 77/44) with the paddle-boat stock?

I'm pretty sure I looked at a 77/357 with the paddle.

Back when Ruger had pride in their work. I bit the bullet and bought a new 10/22 Target lite and I'm going to get a new barrel, than dealing with Snap Shots.

Poor Marlin.. Ruger QC now is worst than Rem.

Look at when the Take Down 1022 came out? The sights were off. Fix was welding the dovetail and re cutting, it looked like crap. It took Ruger 2 guns to replace 1, 2245. They drilled and tapped the base super crooked. The 2nd gun had a crooked front sight and the rear sight broke. 3rd I just passed. Then there was only polish the bolt, where you can see from the chamber.

I bought a New 1022 Target lite and the barrel is touching one side of the stock. The alum shroud they put on the barrel, is crooked.

Also now Ruger charging more for 1022 and they're cheaping out. Puting plastic trigger mechanism in it, plastic barrel bands.

So I don't think they will be doing Marlin any good.

Oh I had no idea it was that bad. Figured it couldn't get any worse than Remington's abortions.
I thought Ruger was doing ok with their higher end rifles. I could be wrong. I'd rather buy a 40 year old rifle with dented up wood any day over something new anyway. Seems like if you want a quality rifle today you gotta go with something European.

Too bad,I had high hopes for Ruger with marlin. Can't find a beat up jm under $1200 anymore.
I paid $600 for mine 5 years ago. Wtf happened?

I feel that the Ruger M77 mk2 was the panicle before the cost cutting began. The Hawkeye is a cost cut version of the M77 mk2, not too much of a cheapening but it is there. My Ruger M77 Guide gun in 338 is very good but the finish doesn't hold a candle to the original M77 mk2, same with my M77 compact in 308, functionally it is good but again the finish is a little lacking. My current collection of older Ruger firearms consists an M77 mk2 300wm paddle stock, M77 mk2 7.62x39 paddle stock, 77/22 paddle stock, and a mk2 semi auto bull barrel pistol. My one new gen Ruger is a 5.56x45 ranch rifle, though it shoots very well the finish is very cheap and the stock has the consistency of a cooked noodle. I can't use a sling to assist shooting it off hand because it bends the wet noodle stock. If only they would have used a stock like the original paddle zytel stock on the ranch rifle it would be perfectly utilitarian and I could over look the cost cutting on the machining finish. Every time I shoot it I feel and compulsive need to slather the bolt in lapping compound and watch a dirty movie so to speak. As for the 10/22, I've had a couple of the older ones, one I bought new in the 1980's and should never have sold. I recently looked at picking up a new one to go in an old 10/22 paddle stock a friend gave me and they are soooo cheaply made now compared to the 1980's version, sort of looking for an old one now.

Bigger pic of the M77 mk2 300wm as requested.

Ah yes, I had a ranch in 556 with the ar mags. It felt like a savage axis to me. Just another Tupperware gun. And the action was terrible. Rough, razor sharp receiver machine edges. Yep.
Shot it once and sold it.
Had a 10/22 50 anniversary model, it was decent once I put an older wood stock on it.
I see the old Tang safety 77 on gunnutz all the time around $5-600 range. Always tempted to get one but I'm holding out for a nice 338... Always seeing them in 7mag and 30-06.

Maybe I'll go for a paddle stock model
