Finally blooded my tikka 270wsm last night.
Got a nice white tail buck. Lots of fat on him. Must have been eating the alfalfa.

Anyway, 150gr accubond, 275 yards right through the boiler. Picked the bullet out the skin on the exit . Perfect performance, he went about 10 yards and laid down.

I donno if this is the wrong forum or not...

Nice- and good performance. I was wondering if the accubond's would "hold up" in a high vel. scenario.
Appears perfect performance, at least, at that range. Am wondering now, what it would have looked
like if only 50 or 100yards. With that much shank left, likely close to perfect again.

Ooo I donno.
At the muzzle they're doing 3100fps, would have to do some math to figure out velocity loss at distance. I weighed the bullet and it retained 87 grains.

I can tell you, I took a deer at 100 yards, 25-06 with Barnes 115gr vld hunters. Went off like a grenade. Total fragmentation. And the pieces I did find were tiny. Not a fun time. Never again.
Maybe for coyotes

Early season? Doesn't open for guns down South here till Tomorrow in some of the Mountain WMU's and not till Nov for most of them.

Quick humane kill, textbook bullet performance from your own handloads, and good eating!. It doesn't get any better. Bravo.

I assumed AB based on your location in your header thing.

I think you mean Berger VLD Hunters, not Barnes. Barnes makes only "X" bullets, TSX and TTSX in .257 calibre. There might also be an LRX, but suffice to say, they are all solid
bullets, without cores. It is impossible for them to fragment.

The "Bergers" are match bullets with "Hunters or Hunting Bullets" written on the box. They are bombs, just like their match bullets.

87gr. is not much for retained weight. The recovered bullet appears much heavier than that - probably due to the core riding out the jacket as happens with non-bonded bullets, usually.

Here is the chart for that bullet, if doing 3,100fps and .625 BC.
The velocity is on the far right-hand side.
So - doing 2,684fps at 275yards.
Flat shooting round with 250 yard zero.
-13" at 400yards.

I did mean Berger bullets. My bad.
I think I said Barnes, because I remember when my dad started shooting Barnes bullets back in the 90s he was recovering bullets from kills and weighing them. He was getting 90% ish weight retention. They were the original Barnes x solid copper pills. He moly coated several hundred of them, which I have now in .257 cal. 90 and 100gr.

But boy do those Berger's shoot!!! Really good in my 25-06.
Just would never try to harvest something I want to eat with them again.

Hey thanks for posting that chart, I hadn't looked at one fully.
I have the rifle zero'd at 300 yards, which seems to work ok for me. But only about 300 fps difference between 100 to 300 yards, puts things into perspective. Think it would be much different up close? Maybe shed some more petals and end up in the skin.
I did find a couple flakes of jacket along side the bullet. They were lost in the dark... I'd guess maybe 10-15 grains worth.
Wasn't the most pressing issue, not long after the operation started we had a visitor... Didn't see it but it got about 7 yards away, was very quiet and low but made some noise when we put the light on it. Thinking big kitty. Hard to be certain. But it hanged around til we left. Lots of cat sign in the area. Random piles of bones that weren't there in the previous years. Stuff like that

The mountain lions #'s are growing around BC, similar to the grizzly numbers.
People seeing the big cats where they never were in the 70's and 80's. There
have been sightings fairly close to town here as well on farms. The dogs, a
Great Pyrenees & St. Bernard were both whining on the porch. When the farmer's
wife opened the door to see what they were carrying on about, she looked in the direction
both dogs were looking and there was the puma, sitting in the snow not quite 100yards
from the house. Both dogs, almost knocked her over getting into the house, yet they
had never been in the house, since being puppies.

Yes, the Berger's are very accurate. Wish they still made the 15gr. HP's. Those ran 4,500fps
in my .17AckBee and almost 5,000fps in my .17Rem. They quite literally exploded gophers
from either rifle.

This, is a pretty good program to have. I found it quite accurate as to drop figures.
This particular chart is for my .17AH. The program is downloadable, as far as I know.
I have it bookmarked and just bring it up and change vel. and BC, ranges etc, as needed.

Yes there sure are a lot more cougars now. And grizzlies. See it all over Kimberley, last 10 years.
Report of a cougar coming in an open door while some guy was reading his newspaper.
Grizzly bear came into other guys house, dog went nuts, buddy looks and sees a grizzly in his kitchen! He shot it.

Was hunting elk 4 years ago, at the same area as the deer. It's a big wide river valley, prime elk rutting situation. Anyway, sitting on top of the bench, about 400 feet, so really nice vantage point. Spotted a cougar, walking down a road in broad daylight. Hunting the same herd of elk. That was one big cat too. Only the first one I have personally seen here.

Today leaving the hunt, heard some hounds going all wiley. Hopefully it's a cat hunter. Lots of guys out today, weekend warriors.

I use shooters calculator to do muzzle energy all the time.
I didn't even see all the other stuff I can do there  thanks, I'll use it.

Yeah I always wanted to try a 17 rem, but I have a 22-250. Gun salesman actually talked me out of buying a 17rem off him due to the fact I have the 22-250... It makes red clouds. So does the 25-06.

If buying a .17Rem. or .204 Ruger, don't buy a Remington. European guns (Anschutz or CZ) will be OK. Savage as well.
My CZ action has a Pac-Nor barrel. Oh, the CZ's are OK in .17Rem. That's the barrel I now have in .17Ackley Hornet.
I set it back, re-threaded and re-cut the chamber. I have both reamers, makes like easier, however my .17Rem reamer
is a tight neck reamer so all brass needs to be outside turned to fit. Once it's done, it's done. This is a gopher I shot
in the face at 320yards with the .17Rem using a 25gr. Hornady HP at 4,100fps MV. There was no bones lead where the
head should be, just a hole. As you can see, attached all the way around. Lucky shot?
Here's looking at-cha.
