I have my first PCP rifle. I am new with this type of rifle.I understand that you can charge a PCP rifle with a scuba tank. What size tank should I be looking for and what should be the pressure rating?I intend on buying a second hand one with a recent hydrostatic test.

dscvmc - from where do you hail? I started with a 60 cu.ft. 3,000psi steel scuba tank, but graduated to a pair of
4,500psi carbon fiber 77(or larger)cu.ft. tanks. Not sure what size they are.

Without your own compressor, I found the 60 cu. ft. tank to be a pain - always having to go get it filled. If your rifle has
a large tank on it, the 3,000psi tank will only fill it completely (from 1,400psi up) about twice, then it fills below 3,000psi.
a number of times.

I've been really impressed by some of the new, cheap Chinese PCP compressors.

If you search on Amazon for this:

GX Portable PCP Air Compressor,4500Psi/30Mpa,Oil-Free,Powered by Car 12V DC or Home 110V AC with Adapter,Paintball/Scuba Tank Pump

you should find the one I have (pic).

It works great for filling up the gun. If you have a large tank, you'll have to cycle it, i.e. fill for a minute, power-off for a few, fill for a minute, power off for a few, etc. This is to keep the temperature of the seals relatively low.

You can buy much more serious compressors and pay far more than this. But this is enough for me. I have one small scuba tank, and one pcp gun.

I may get a second scuba tank at some point, but this is enough for now.

Here is the scuba tank I use. It has a 4500 psi capacity.

Dive shops and Paintball are the only places to really get HPA tanks filled. But Paintball is out of season, and not sure what shops are still around.

Keep in mind the PSI rating on your PCP gun, and the PSI rating on whatever bottle you purchase.

My gun has a 4300psi rating but a small tank. So a small bottle at 4500psi will last me a good while. If your bottle has a lower PSI rating than your gun it will never fill it.

If my gun was only rated to 3000 psi the bottle would last quite a while longer.

Basically you want your bottle to have a higher Psi rating than your gun, and considerably larger volume.

Just to add to what has been said, because I agree with the advice: IMO, it's worth thinking about your goals before investing in a compressor. The little, very portable, and especially 12 volt (or dual voltage) compressors can be really handy but very slow. As for filling tanks, they lack the duty cycle as someone stated, so filling needs to be done in several, often many, compressor runs.

I take 3 or 4 PCPs to the range every week, where we shoot for 5 or 6 hours so I need a lot of air. My 66 cu ft 4500 PSI SCBA tank does a good job for that, but I would get old pumping it up from ~3,000 - 4,500 PSI, using one of the little compressors.

I have two Yong Heng clones, one of which uses the regular water bucket cooling and the other, I have converted to closed loop. It uses a poly-glycol water mix, inline water pump, 120 volt muffin fan on a Nissan Xterra heater core as the radiator. It's all mounted to a Lexan frame and is decently portable at about 10 pounds heavier than the standard 37 pounds. About 20 minutes will top up my tank with either one.

I used to take the closed-loop compressor to the range to top up the guns, then bought the SCBA tank.

The little Cx and similar compressors pump at about the same rate as my hand pump so I don't see the point, although others don't see things that way.

I plan to convert the second compressor to closed loop, also, because it's handier to be able to just grab and shove it on a shelf, than have it in working space.
