Hi guys. Can anyone please help me fix my red dot sight. The light (red dot) doesn't seem to turn on. Batteries are ok, ON/OFF switch works. It's a pretty simple construction. I've tested it with volt meter, but other than that I'm not electronically savvy. The sight hold sentimental value to me and I would be much grateful if it's fixed. I'm in Toronto and/or Hamilton area.

Your help is much appreciated.

Can you post a picture of the sight or give details on the make & model?

It's a Russian sight called Taiga. There is hardly any info on it online. It's a simple, vintage red dot. With 2 button batteries + and a light source housed on the opposite side to the objective lens. Pics attached.

Let's have a look at the battery compartment. Sometimes there is a ring (with spanner notches) that gets loose. Battery size?

The battery is LR43 (just it's not clear from the picture) and it fits into one of the adapters. I did use ampermeter to measure the current for batteries along the path all the way to the light. Seems to read ok, but then again it's my second time using ampermeter in my life :)

I think you need two batteries for that.

Well, that's definitely different. I have 4 dot sights and none look at all like that. Does one battery go positive upwards and the other negative up?

Yes - on the battery positions.

If I had to replace the actual light element, and re-solder it, where would I go about buying one? I know that they sell a replacement "bulb" for the laser pointers...but it's not really the same thing. I think laser pointer led is something like 6-10 moa, and this red dot is either 2 or 3 moa.

And or is the cap making proper connection?

Also wondering if there a broken or loose connection under those terminals? Also can try and clean it with rubbing alcohol. Or try lightly bending the tab up a bit more to get a better connection.

Doubt you can get parts for it.

The connection seems to be ok, as I've tested it using a multimeter. In my last comment I wondered if anyone knows where I can buy just a LED, or bulb (sorry, I don't know what it's called), and just re-solder it. It can be any bulb for a red dot.

LED looks easy to replace though you should test it first.

So just to confirm......one battery is positive down and the other negative. You should be getting a little over 3v from one side of the holder to the other. And you should be getting it to the leads to the lights. Also check the adjusters for the light.......they may be out of adjustment causing it to not align with the screen

notec - great points. Confirmed on all accounts as per your message. This sight is a bit of a puzzle. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Wish I could send to out to one of our Sr. tech specialists on here (or if someone is in Toronto/GTA/Hamilton area)
