Hello everyone!

It's been a while since I last posted, but CAF Member Ineedpal's design and manufacturing skills, deserve recognition indeed!

Xue PM'd me and offered to 3D print some barrel support bands for my FX Dreamline, ridiculously cheap I might add (2 for$35.00 including shipping), and while I'd already reviewed and installed a pair purchased on eBay several years ago, I thought, "why not," support a fellow member.

Xue (ineedpal), shipped them out the next day, and what arrived in the mail one week later was nothing short of superb -this gentleman is quite the artist! Xue's barrel bands are far more robust, and most tastefully designed than those they were replacing -even the hardware was of high quality stainless steel. Just for yuks, and on ineedpal's suggestion, I "doubled up" the bands on my FX rifle, but may eventually move one over to my Streamline as well.

Attaching a few photos for comparison sake -my previous 3D printed barrel bands served their purpose, but far more utilitarian in terms of cosmetics and design. I suppose "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but I for one am duly impressed! I'm quite certain Xue would take on any custom job you might send his way as well, and likely do a mighty fine job. Thought this story worth sharing, and this member worthy of praise.

Cheers!

Avianmanor

What material are those made out of?

I've been 3d printing for a while using a resin printer, but I've been contemplating taking the next step, and using prints to make molds, to cast materials out of aluminum, nickel, copper, etc. I almost have my work space set up to do this. Hopefully first try before Christmas.

Those are PLA, found them the toughest among commonly used materials under normal temperature. I know people make silicone mold using 3d printer, but not metal casting molds. Would be interesting to see for sure

I have printed some very durable parts with PLA, but of course the strength and durability are highly dependant on the layup and infill. As to 3D metal printing, although the cost of the printers is coming down, you still need about 60k for a decent one. 316 stainless is availabe for 3D printing and may be the cheapest for mould making. You should ba able to cast Al and brass/bronze in that. Nickel would be another level of complexity but can't see why you'd want to, its good for turbine blades but not airguns. My 3D metal printer dreams were shut down due to COVID.
