Hi all,

Hope you're doing well.

So... just got an HW45 and just my luck, I think it's got a problem. Out of the box, cocking was ok. But after about 30 maybe 40ish shots, I found the cocking effort became harder and graunchy when cocked to full power. Looked around and found this odd piece of metal on the cocking slot. It shouldn't be there right? Pretty sure it shouldn't be there. Best guess is it must be factory swarf? And it must be catching something when cocking fullstroke, significantly increasing cocking effort.

So, it shouldn't be there right?

PS: Going to open this up for a strip/relube and also going to install an Ozzy seal. While in apart, is it worth installing a pop bottle piston sleeve in there?

Definitely metal! Touched it with a paper clip. Doesn't budge. Thanks for the scheme! Was just going to Google it actually. Lol.

Had a closer look. When this part that the linkage is hooking to gets to the part where the alleged swarf is at is when cocking gets harder.

If the gun is new take it back, or contact Weirauch. You should not have a burr like that.

It's new.... just got it from D&L. Hmmm, you don't think this can be easily removed? Or you're concerned there could be something else wrong with the pistol and I won't be covered by warranty if I open it up?

If it were used, I would tear it apart......but you dont pay good money for a gun to have this happen.......

Anyway, cheers!

Depending on your ability to fix a problem, the solution is up to you really if you take it apart or you just contact the seller and get another one. From the sounds of it you have a new pistol you bought retail? From your picture it is hard to tell the problem. To me it looks like a chip/burr in the slot. I have taken my 45 apart enough times that I can strip it and get it back together in an hour. Its fairly simple if you have been around springers before. To me it looks like a metal chip versus something broken. I did get in on this thread a couple days after you posted. What route did you go? Feel free to PM if you need help with it.

Hey! Nice to meet another Ian around here. Ian, I'm taking notec's and Ace's advice. Sending it back. Unfortunately can't take more pics as the pistol's already packed up. Just waiting for D&L's confirmation.

Was so tempted to disassemble, really. It seems to be a piece of metal caught between the spring and the inner wall of the main tube. Pulling out the spring should take it along with it (also, if that metal chip was in there, some of the internals could be scratched up). But... that's a best case scenario. If it is a burr, and what a burr it is, then it has to be filed down. All the room I have to work with is just that slot. That's barely bigger then the width of my file. That and what if part of the burr that's inside needs filing? Don't have any attachments for a drill/dremel that can take care of that. Paid for a new gun in good working order. Didn't get it. Sending it back. It's the safe route. Must ignore the inner child in me that wants to play with his new toy right away.

exactly... if you found the cocking effort became harder and crunchy when cocked to full power then chances are
it has scared the inner wall of the main tube, if this was a used 45 then yes take it apart and and have a go at it
but since its new why bother just return it and get a better one...

If it's a burr, why it started 'working' after about 40 shots? Usually a burr would be biggest and sharpest at the beginning then also be wearing down in usage...

And if it's a metal chip... Would it be something or somewhere broken? And so, I think that's out of an end user's ability to fix and should not do so as it's a new gun...

Returning it for an exchange or replacement is the best to deal with the case~
