Hi folks,
I was plinking at a friends acreage, trying to dial in my Diana model 48. My buddy is an avid hunter, gunsmith, and blacksmith, owning a number of really nice firearms which I've had opportunity to shoot. Unfortunately, he's never played with a springer air gun, and the Diana just wasn't playing nice. Even after trying it without his gun vise we had no real luck. After a while, he got bored and went into his house, coming back out with a couple of .22 powder rimfire rifles and some subsonic amunition. These rifles were so light and easy to shoot in comparison to the Diana springer. Far less recoil, and being able to keep the eyes on the target (no blink) was a relevation.

I'd like to invest in a .22 pcp rifle, assuming that the lack of recoil would be similar to a .22 rimfire. I really like the look of the Aselkon MX5 or MX6, or the Benjamin Cayden. I thought that the Tsunami T2 looked OK, but came across a number of posts indicating possible QC issues, which I'd like to avoid. I'd really like to keep the cost of the gun under $700 CAD, leaving some room for optics and some sort of compressor or tank. Hoping to shoot accurately beyond 50 meters.

Any advice or observations would be highly appreciated, particularly from owners of the mx5 or mx6.

Regards,
Jeff

Lots of choices, but that's a tight budget for gun, scope, and compressor or tank, IME.

A Diana Stormrider .22, with 3-9 AO Bugbuster and Yong Heng clone compressor might make the cut-off. I also have a SCBA tank and smaller tank.

Mine is right with my Kral Mega (regulated), and Kervan C5 for accuracy and velocity. It will hit .22 rimfire silhouettes reliably at 100 metres.

Not only that, by my 11-year-old granddaughter loves it. :-)

If you are in the Fraser Valley, you are welcome to stop by and check out my stuff.

Our forum store still has some cz200s in 22cal (which the 177 are all gone in the past a few months).

This rifle is quality accurate one which agreed by most of the ppl have it (included myself).

Take s look~ :)

What he said -can't beat the CZ at that price point. You may wish to invest in the optional multi shot magazine. These have been discontinued by the manufacturer, so it's now or never for a brand spanking new one.

However, if you want a super light, super accurate, ergonomically friendly rifle, wait and pony up for a preowned FX Streamline or Dreamline when one comes available.

Lots of other choices as well ........ "buy once cry once" is my motto.

Cheers!

Thank you for the insights! To be clear, my preferred budget of ±$700 is for the rifle only. I recognize the scope and compressor or tanks are likely going to double that for the total budget.
Cheers, Jeff

Well, that certainly is a lot of votes for the CZ200S, and none for what I was considering: the Aselkon MX5 / Mx6 or a Benjamin Cayden or variant.
As the CZ200S is discontinued, are potential issues regarding parts and support not a concern? All the vids I've been able to find are positive indeed.

Thanks,
Jeff

The cz200, identical to AA S200 which actually CZ is the real maker of the rifle, is very popular and have a good reputation. We now have in the forum store is the MK3, and lots of MK2 and MK1 are still good collective pieces in ppl's hands...

Quality built, very consistent, very accurate, very easy adjusting (valve and hammer), decent output to 16fpe, big or small scoops, target style diopter sights, long tube has 150cc volume good for 60+ shots and short tube has 120cc volume and good for 40+ shots....

And looks the AA S200 Target (comes with diopter sights setup and longer big volume air tube) is still in production.

And I would rather worry about the parts of your other choices on the list more than the cz200 actually... :) They just too new to the market and the cz200 even has lots of great aftermarket parts in here, US and UK, Europe... You can buy from eBay or directly from the makers' webpages...

The only tricky part of the cz200 is you need to get the filling adapter set to fill the air tube as the original one is not a standard quick fill...

And trigger adjustment might take up a lot of time and patient to make it a great one and fits your expectations. .. ImageImageImage

Ditto on the CZ200.

Pros: not picky on pellet, super accurate, compact, lightweight, factory tested so you are unlikely to get a lemon

Cons: have to take off the cylinder to refill, kinda loud, single shot only unless you get the mag kit, trigger is not as good as true 2 stage (but still very good), alloy receiver prone to premature wear (not a problem if you are careful when cocking and locking the bolt)

If you want a brand new gun this is a no-brainer: for under 700 you are not getting a more accurate PCP.

There are some things about the CZ200 you should be aware of before purchasing. It's a small rifle making it a popular for youths. LOP may or may not be adequate for you. It's a single shot bolt action. These days side lever repeaters have become the norm. Yep Yep modified his to be a repeater. They shoot at ~16 joules/12 ftlb. If I had access to open space like you do I would want more. However a popular rifle for good reason. You can't go wrong with a cz200 but definitely consider/research other options. It's a crowded field in the sub $700 price range.

btw, springers should not be shot in a gun vice. They should be allowed to move/recoil in thier most natural way during the shot cycle. Look up the artillery hold.

Good luck on your purchase.

Hi Jeff,

Our forums store has the multi shot auto indexing mag kit too.

https://www.airgunforum.ca/store/index.php?cPath=22_39

And please be noted the price you see are all tax included and our forum store is run by our member 'sniper Dan and provides the best price you can find in Canada.

I have the mag kit installed, an extra mag purchased, a longer big volume tube purchased, an Altaros aluminum long tube with quick fill adapter, a two pieces filling kit I purchased from UK Bestfittings to fill the original tube. No regulator (the cz200 doesn't need that IMO).

I use both tubes and removing the tube to fill looks not an issue to me and I didn't find swapping tubes bring me inconsistency in the shooting session either. Anyway, that's its original design which not on-site filling but on-site tube switching...

As you already found and watch some YouTube videos, I believe you have your own ideas about this little PCP rifle~

Oh~ forgot to mention, you know what? The best part I found is you looking for a 22cal and we only have 22cal in stock~ ;)

I will offer a alternative opinion. Although the CZ200 is a fine target rifle, it seems to me that the OP is looking for a pesting rifle primarily. A decade ago the Discovery was one of the few options available for low cost PCP, and it is still available and is a suitable rifle for entry to PCP shooting. You can get a package with a pump and irons and be shooting for well under $700. Since it's PCP any scope will do if you want to scope it - you can get a nice scope for around $100.

[emoji38] don't let the fancy look of mine confuse you~ That one is out of stock already ~ :)

Out of box mine shoots at a little less than 12 fpe, 8.2g R10 at consistent 777 to 779fps. Easy tune to more higher fpe by open up the valve and give more hamner spring preload... Not remember the details I read from HAM or where else... Anyway I went the other way to tune down the power a little for shooting in the basement...

But had to admit the Disco is a great choice too~ heard a lot of good things on it! And definitely it has more power than the cz200 for pest control ~

Although not in Canada yet the Air Venturi Avenger should be around that $700 mark and has tremendous value according to all the reviews states side. Seems squarely aimed at the Umarex Gauntlet which is high value in itself.

I just ordered a cr600w/stormrider PCP with hand pump for under $500 from Airguns Archery Fun. Rated at 800 fps in .22 and 900fps in .177. Both single shot and magazine fed. This will be my first PCP and seems like a good introductory unit.
