Purchased a new Stoeger XP4 yesterday.
Put a few pellet through it right after I got home.
Then went out later in the day and it started to miss fire.
Was using Crosman wad cutters which would miss fire every 8 pellets or so.
Also tried so Daisy precision pointed pellets that miss fired about every 3 pellets.
When it miss fires you just hear a click when you pull the trigger.

So is it the pellets or is there some other issue?

I read others having similar problems and oiling the gun to resolve the problem.

How would you oil the gun?
In doing so I assume your oiling the seals.
But how is this done?

Or should I just return it for another one?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Open the top cocking fake slide and open up to show the piston, then two or 3 drops of pellgunoil or the 30ND oil on the piston body, and close / open the slide a few times to let the oil spread out on the piston and getting inside to reach the main seal. No need to fully close it (cock), just move the piston back and forth.

And dry fire (fire without pellet) it a few times to let the excessive oil blow out from the muzzle and also going through the inside of pistol and lube other seals...

Honestly speaking.... I didn't use silicone oil on my SSPs as I do have more than enough pellgunoil and a big bottle of 30ND... So I 'save' my silicone oil and grease for the PCP...

I think basically it's okay as the seals in the XP4 and other similar kind SSPs are just o rings too but in different sizes... ppl don't use silicone oil is because the low power of the SSP doesn't need that higher grade of oil?!

So basically any type of actual gun oil will work?
Does it have to pellet gun oils specifically?

For the 'gun oil' thing, I think you mean powder burners? Would those be too strong on the airguns and rubber o rings and 'pot metal '?! I don't have actual experience on that but I think I would avoid using gun oil products on airguns...

Is it ok to dry fire the gun as mentioned above?
Instructions specifically say not too.

Not a problem to dry fire a SSP or a co2 powered gun. Actually PCPs are safe to dry fire... Sometimes dry firing makes much louder noise...

Just don't dry fire a springer.

Just be careful Even without pellet, the air flow blowing out is still powerful at the muzzle, so follow the same safety practice to point the muzzle to a safe place then pull the trigger.

Found the valve sticking open in these….stuck in the gun fired, valve open position….the gun then allowing the compressed air to be pushed through the works of the gun and out up the barrel unchecked.
Flushed WD40 through the valve with the valve open until it runs clear of any debris, then followed with the aforementioned Pellgun oil (its got O ring conditioner in it) which lubed the valve back to life without having to strip it…
Problem is, i performed the 2 steps at the same time…so im unsure which corrected the issue.
Im guessing sticky O ring not returning to closed after shot.

If your pistol compresses under considerable cocking force…its not the valve but the Piston seal not holding the air….if so, follow the above posters recommendation to recondition the seal to seal.

As above poster states, no reason to not dry fire an SSP unlike a springer.

Oiled it up as per YepYep suggestion and no misfires with Crosman pointed pellets.
It will occasionally misfire with the Crosman wadcutter but its much better now.
As far as the Daisy pointed pellets the gun just does not seem to like them and will still misfire once out of every 3 or 4 pellets.
