the asking price for the airgunbuy.com is too much for me, I would rather crosman 1701 trigger frame assembly for that price.

You can put a 72" barrel on it and a stock and it still is a pistol.
It is determined by the 2240 stamped into the main tube. Same with a 2250. 2260 though is considered a rifle and has a 24" barrel. Cutting the barrel down below 18.5" would theoretically make it restricted. But you can buy shorter barrels...

In Canada a long gun is over 660mm in length. Shorter than that and it's a restricted weapon.

I thought anything under a certain length would be classified as a pistol. Say your using a 2240 tube? Would a 14" barrel be classified as a pistol because it's shooting over 500fps? i know this is such an old question....sorry getting old :)

Thanks man! Anything under 18" is classified as restricted on a 2240 tube?

Yup, use of a 2240 labeled tube on anything governs the fact that it's a pistol. Get a custom tube and you're home free... Just follow the general long gun guidelines and you should be ok.

And anything under 25.9" in overall length is also restricted if it's over 500fps

Thats a pretty nice kit but its shorter than a 2260 tube so in a pinch it may quite likely considered a pistol.

It's not the tube length, but what is stamped on the side that determines if it is a pistol (tube) or not.... 2240 and 2250 are pistols, 2260 is a rifle.... A shortened 2260 tube (or a custom tube, of course) would still be a rifle, providing the barrel and LOA meet the requirements for non-restricted.... and providing it has a stock (not intended to be shot one-handed)....

Well there you go, just buy a 2260 tube and cut it. The stamp should be visible and then drill the extra valve screws and as long as the stamp isnt to deep you should be safe. It would be nice to be able to squeeze a regulator in there with that extra volume.
