How many guys here have shot Eley Wasp pellets?

About 20 years ago I had a couple of blue tins of .22cal Wasps. They shot great in a pistol I had. I think they were old store inventory at the time. Back in the early 90s I was buying the red tin .177cal Wasps for cheap. Recently I dusted off a plastic container of .177cal Wasps and they shoot quite well in my WF-600 rifle. The .177cal Wasp is a light weight and short domed pellet. It's a bit like a JSB Exact RS but not quite the quality. This container I'm shooting now still has the $3.49Cdn price sticker!

If you haven't shot Wasps, have you tried the old Bulldog pellets or the Milbro? How about the old Crosman Superpells (trash cans) that came in Ziploc bag or older yet the ones that came in pepper container tins?

Ah nice! I used to get the old milbro Caledonian and the crosman super Pells in the little baggies. The old copperhead BB's in bags too. Never knew Eley made pellets. They make really good rimfire ammunition.

I have a tin with a handful of the bulldog Pellets. Found at a flea market.

I have a tin of bulldogs with a handful of pellets in it. I also have a "spice tin" of trashcan Crosman .22s. Fun nostalgia. I shot a lot of those trashcan Crosman .22s in the sixties.

As a kid, I shots a whole slew of these, among others.
- Heck, we'd do random chores and errands for the local hardware store in exchange of pellets

I have shot the Eley Wasps, and several other of the vintage pellet types.

The Eley Wasps in the blue labeled tins are 5.6 mm pellets, which perform great in the vintage British airguns, like the old BSAs and Webleys, which are the guns they were designed for.
The Eley Wasps in the violet labeled tins are the 5.5 mm pellets, which correspond more favourably to our modern .22 cal pellets.

My FWB 127 absolutely loves the old, British made Milbro Caledonian pellets. The Later iterations, that were made in Scotland, not so much. They must have changed dies, because the Scottish made pellets were a completely different shape, and didn't even resemble the old Milbros.
The Old Milbro Caledonian pellets were also re-branded and sold under the Daisy brand name, as well as other brands.

The old Crosman Super-Pells do reasonably well at the shorter ranges, out to around 15 yds or so, but are more of a plinking pellet than an all-out accuracy pellet.
The very, very old Super-Pells that came in the cardboard tubes were a much nicer formed pellet, and are the only pellets that I have found that will function 100% reliably in the Crosman model 118 repeater.

Quite often vintage airguns perform much better when using period correct ammo, so it always helps to have a well stocked stash of vintage pellets. :D

Still have a tin of the Eley Wasp diabolos in 4.5mm - they were really nice pellets for the price and shot great out of my Slavia 631.

I shot some of the Caledonians.
I do recall having to sort for rolled over skirts ~ there were a lot of them.
The undamaged samples shot well out of an old springer pistol that I had.
I see the crosman cylindrical trash-cans at gunshows from time to time, usually with insane price tags attached to them.

I shot the blue light blue tins in .22cal all the time. They had a very taught skirt and an interesting power payload for plinking etc. I think they were shortish pellets

That new pistol of yours is over 20 years old so the pellets likely are too. Good score!

I have a bunch of both. The blue tin .22 Wasps are very high quality .. extremely well made. But they are 5.6mm vs the standard 5.56mm and so some guns may not like them. The British were always weird that way. The red label plastic tinned .177's are far less in quality. I tended to think someone bought the rights to the Eley pellet brand and started cranking out a sub par product. As an aside, I have some yellow label BSA Pylarm in .177 that are fantastic quality . I always suspected these were made on the original Wasp dies. They are 7.5 gr. And always very accurate.
