Just finish the test with the crosman barrel.
Really surprise the crosman wadcutter 7.4 grains was the best with a .618" at 10 m follow by excite econ II at .625". The worst is h&n final match light with 0.885".

You could probably get down to 1/2" or less. Maybe try some H&N Finale Match Rifle, H&N Field Target Trophy, JSB Exact 8.44gr, JSB Exact Express, and JSB Match Middle. I've never tested a Crosman 1740 but with good pellets I got 3/8" and smaller with a Cr2240 and a Cr Mk1.

With the reduced valve i see liigther is the pellet better is the accuracy, the h&n 7.87 gr is far away the worst i test and it s a good quality pellet cheap 7.4 and 7.5 do lot more better.
Sometimes a heavy pellet still shoots great from a low velocity air pistol. The Mk1 I tested was only shooting 8.44gr JSB Exact at around 400fps but they grouped .32" at 10m (many groups). My old TAU-7 shot accurately with the 8.44gr Exact at 450fps. My current TAU-7 does well with the 8.64gr H&H FTT at 450fps but it also likes the H&N Finale Match Rifle. It shoots both into 1/4" groups at 10m. My P17 pistols like the 8.44gr JSB Exact and also the 8.64gr H&N FTT and they are only moving at around 385-400fps.
We can't determine the best pellet by eliminating certain options because of weight. Pellet head & skirt size consistency is very important. Sometimes a longer or shorter pellet stabilizes better. Sometimes a wider or narrower skirt or head do better. Sometimes thinner or thicker skirt walls seem to shoot best. Sometimes a lighter pellet option is made by thinning out the skirt and deepening the skirt hole (JSB Exact Express vs RS). This changes pellet balance and may or may not benefit accuracy in the specific pistol.
With pellets that your 2300/1740 likes, it should group 1/2" and very likely less. If not, then check the transfer port and the crown for burrs.
