Yours is coming along nicely too, I'm digging the bits laminated on - classy!
BTW what glue do you use for laminating? I typically use I use the PVA Gorilla wood glue for big joints, but I experimented with "Gorilla" water activated expanding polyurethane for adding the small accents and so far it seemed to work well. I dimpled the wood surfaces to give some extra tooth (the glue expands and fills the dimples - presumably) and I used Lepage epoxy for gluing plastic to wood, the PE didn't stick to the plastic. I used Goop silicone for plastic to plastic.

Beginning contouring with rotary rasp and sanding drums..

A little thumb ledge started, might add a small zebra wood bass guitar style thumb rest extension.

You got some good depth of cut there. What type of rotary rasps do you have? I only have type B below, but I found they are not aggressive enough, they're more polishers than rasps. I'm tempted to get a wheel for the angle grinder, looks like it would remove some material.

I find my dremel with flex shaft and a ½ course sanding drum works fastest at hogging out contours.

interesting tool
right now I’m using, Dremel, electric drill with larger sanding drums, Bosch oscillating tool with sanding attachment, benchtop belt sander.
When I start doing the rear of the stock to get the oval I usually route the edges with a 45. This takes off a lot of wood and really speeds up getting the right oval on the stock

starting to get the grip to where I like it,
The seam between the adjustable cheekpiece and stock will have to be mated once I machine the hardware for the adjustable cheek piece and install it.
then I just Lock the cheap piece in the lowest position And do all the shaping as well as the joint at the back of the grip which will have to be hung out with her sander drum

So this is what use for adjusting cheeks piece. Works the same as old bicycle quill stem.
6mm furniture bolt with the head turned down to match the ⅜ stainless.
Brass 6mm insert nut is in cheek piece behind the tube( which gets epoxied in.
A light turn with a 4mm ball head driver locks and unlocks it.

Image

I will be filling in the adjustment holes with a wood hollow core plug That the driver jut fits through. I make the plug using a 1/8 inch bolt and nut drilled through her half inch thick piece of wood, with my bench sander I ship it into a plug shape then press fits although I do have a little bit of glue.
Once its sanded down all you see is ⅛ hole.

Image

Now I can get a better idea of his much Can trim off the bottom of butt stock (prob ½ inch. And then start shaping the slab into something curved..

Also have to contour match thr thumb hole area with the cheek piece locked die torca seamless look.
still wanting to add a small compartment for magazines…

Basically done minus Finish sanding and finish. I am thinking about adding some stipling on the slab sided forestock?

The two little holes are for the 4 mm pole driver to lock or unlock the adjustable comb for positioning.I kind of prefer the invisible hardware look.
