That is so true. Ironically when I did the contouring I may have been under the influence of a gummy that my neighbour gave me. IT gave me the courage to do it , as I had been putting it off since the rest is so done. It gave me laser focus lol and kept me relaxed. I was using a rotary tool with flex shaft and various sanding drums and took it slow so I could only damage it so much. Glad its over. got hungry thou and my bad knee felt good.

me neither, actually there was a wealth of learning in that post and a beautiful song from a man who was in dire straits. I had to google luthier, and knopfler, but how cool is that; I never know what I'm going to learn on the forum.
Walther, stay away from rotating machinery while UI! You could put an eye out.. or loose an arm.

Wonderful song right
The cbd was quite relaxing and really helped my knee that had extensive surgery, also seemed to help with anxiety from being home so much. I work in the film industry and next contract has not started yet, start work thurs on my next show (Mark Hamill starring:))

both of these stocks were the same colour when raw.
The finish I used on the top one was tung oil and from 2010. Tung oil ages to a nice caramel.

Decided to buff the main tube with cloth wheel and steel buffing compound.
Barrel will bar carbon wrapped eventually.

WOW very impressive work!

Yep looking fine! I am planning to do the same technique, mis stain in with the tung oil and maybe even mix stain in with shellac for a finish coat. Beats paint I think and will cover my sins.

Tung oil does not need a finish coat of varnish if lay enough hand rubbed coats down. Staining this myrtle is tough, it is very dense and can easily be sanded to a mirror like finish with no finish same as zebrawood., I will do a testpiece of the other stain "gunstock" colour I was planning on using, Usually I just use tung oil as it does mellow as it ages..

Understood. But my stocks are made of multiple strips of laminated wood, and two halves glued together and boo-boos, so I need a finish with high hiding ... short of paint I'm hoping that will do it.

I used Madagascar Rosewood for the real seat on a double handed fly rod I built years ago. It does not need oil as it has lots of it's own.

Rosewood is beautiful, I have some danish vintage furniture with rosewood. The CBSA seizes all rosewood at boarder now unless you have a permit.
Vintage guitars get seized all the time because of the rosewood fret boards..:(
