Hi, i just start practicing issf pistol for fun. My groups start to be smaller but i realise my poi is not the same of when i adjust my sight with benchrest style.

That' s normal or is just my skill to poor ?

Normal for any gun to shoot differently from different positions, whether rifle or handgun.
Some do, though, but most don't. My PP700 shots about the same offhand (2 handed) as it does from a rest,
resting the air reservoir on the bag. I also use 2 hands when shooting off a rest, so that might have something
to do with the POI..

We've learned some tricks in Pdr. Burning rifle shooting from a bench to make it shoot the same poi as offhand.
This requires holding the forend in the "off hand", whether that is your left or right, and placing the back of
that hand on the sand bag. No rear bag is used. This usually gives the same poi as offhand shooting.

I never experiment this problem with power burner rifle buy you put my light on, when i bench rest my pistol i sit down. The difference of high is a bit over 2' and by the way the angle change, the pistol i use shoot at 410 fps so change poi from around 1/2 to 3/4" make sens i think...

Some dry fire practice might answer some questions.

How are you aiming?

Point of aim/6 o'clock/Sub-6

When sighting from the bench, do you use the same position as you would standing?

Do you focus on the front sight?

The difference in height when standing or sitting has zero effect on point of impact, as long as the shooting manner is the same. Change of the way the pistol is held and rested does.
That you haven't seen this with powder burners is interesting.
Just with my lighter .375, resting the rifle on the sand bag, as opposed to shooting it offhand or on the bench as I described above, makes
a 3 1/2" difference in point of impact at 100 meters. Doesn't sound like much, but if shooting at 300 meters, it's a HUGE difference & a low shot
by over 10" in elevation will be the result.
So - sight the gun in for the same "discipline" you are shooting. If you have to change the sights, that is called sighting it in - a normal operation.
My varmint rifles show less difference, but there is a difference.

When shooting from a bench, most people will be "facing" the rest, as opposed to shooting standing.
- The distance between your shooting eye and the sight will be different, and can be perceived differently.

How you are holding the pistol will make a difference
- Off a bench, you grip will be quite relaxed
- Standing, chances are you'll be using your ring and pinky finger to hold onto the pistol. Too much pinky will have an impact on the outside of your palm pushing on the grip.

Yes i use the same position except my pistol rest on a sand bag. I make some practice and is better now.

Do you focus on the front sight?

No - when shooting from the bench, you are sitting down.

When I shoot from the bench, I use 2 hands on the pistol - same as I do when shooting standing.

I don't shoot Olympic Style one handed.

Always focus on the front sight. Young eyes can focus on both, sometimes, but the front bears the most attention.

If you're in (or around) Montreal. Once things are back to normal, it might also be worth your while to stop at the FQT 10M air rifle/pistol range
- I'm pretty sure they have initiation nights, with coach on location to give you some tips and tricks

Club de tir Les Castor in Québec city also have a dedicated 10M range with electronic targets
