Hi, I want to adjust the velocity of my TAU 7 pistol, the only use for this pistol is 10 meter target shooting.

I test my gun and accuracy look to be the same no matter the velocity. I know some pistol like v10 shoot at 400 fps some like issy 470 fps. I can go from 380 to over 500 fps but it have a velocity who make the job easier for the 10 meter sport ? Or club have some limit to use on there range ?

For now with the covid i practice at home but i better like to adjust the pistol right now and dont have to change when i get a chance to go in a club.

I shoot my first 60 shoots match yesterday i got a score of 459 with 19 X, I hope to be able to look not so bad when I get on club for the first time :)

as fast as legally possible so closest but not going over 500fps. There are compact versions for a reason. The shorter the barrel the less time you have to influence through the shot cycle which probably helps most of us.

Nice to break 400. It's a good first goal. 500 next.

When I set the velocity on mine, I made sure I could get about 65+ shots. A few sighters and a 60 shot match. It was right around 400 fps.

That would be most important if you are competing in a 60 shot official match, such as the Grand Prix in Toronto where I use to shoot. If shooting a 40 shot match, you could bump it to about 470 fps. Mine also preferred the heavier R10 pellets as opposed to the 7 grain light ones.

Very good score by the way.

So with 7.4 grain i get 60 shoots at 485 fps with food grade sparklet, i have to try at like 470 fps. Mine for now like the h&n final match light 7.87 gr and the rws 7 gr meister... The rws cost me double the price of the h&n

That's right, co2. I never went through that phase. Yes, highest velocity to make it through a complete match. It's not like you can change powerlets midway. Ok you can but you can not discharge to equalize the first shot on a new powerlet without penalty unless you get permission. Competition that is.

Outside of Canada the pcp pistols are shooting around 510-540ish. Any faster and recoil becomes a factor. Might sound funny but mine in the mid 490's with it's shock absorber still has a pop. It does make a difference as you subconsciously react to it.

Off hand, I think I was running my TAU7 at +/- 460fps (H&N Light), with a 12gr cartridge I was good for a little 80 shots. Which for me was enough for some sighters and a match.
- For practice, I'd use bulk refill. I think you're supposed to be able to get more shots from bulk... but I never did

The LP50 is running about the same using H&N Sport (8.18 gr)

One training aid I like is the target scan app.

It's a fun way (for me at least) to compile stats and keep track of scores

That's where i set it this morning around 460 fps with h&n light, it 's give me high 465fps with excite econ II . Cheaper for volume practice. Accuracy was enough good for pratice get a 441 this morning. With rws meister.. 7 gr it was on mid 490 fps. Think i get the good zone ;)

Can't say I've had much luck with the Econ... OK for plinking, but on target (maybe it's psychological) but I'd be throwing flyers left/right/center!

I get my Sport from nikkonos (Cible Target Canada in Ottawa), a good guy to deal with.

Other source of inexpensive pellet, just add them to your wish list on Amazon and wait for Camelcamelcamel to send you a "on sale" notice
- Crosman .177-Caliber Wadcutter (in the 1250 count milk-box), every so often they come down to $17... OK for the single-shot, not so good in the Steyr's magazine. They also offer them in a plastic-spice-box, about $6/500
- Daisy 177 (in that little plastic box), cheapest I got was about $3/500... OK at 10M
- RWS Diablo basic
- Gamo Match pellets
- Last week I got a few thousands Crosman Premier Domed FT 10.5gr for $6/500 :drinkers:

I've met to try the Xisico Wadcutters 177 8.6gr from Wes (airgunarcheryfun) but I've already plenty of other pellets on hand, and I really don't shoot as much as I used to so...

I test on bench rest at least 12 pellets the first best was h&n light follow by excite econ2, excite plinking is a nightmare.

I order from cible canada target too, my tau 7 was from there. When i lived in hull city i get the chance to meet him some time Nice guy and a1 service .

Good app. It's the one I use too.

LP50? Ok some jealousy over here. Definitely my next desired pistol purchase.

Cibles/Nikonos - Yup. Couldn't agree more. Not quite the same experience since covid but still excellent none the less. I get all my paper and pellets there. All my competition grade ag's at that. He keeps offering me deals. I couldn't be rude and say no right?

Last time i tested crosman wc my velocity was around 430 fps, you push me to give a other try and at 460 fps crosman do the job better than excite. Now have 4 box of excite on road for nothing but i can use my 2 500 crosman. Thank's

I make a big cleanup inside the tau7 lot of grunk inside, at the same time i change the valve and hammer spring and the really tied o-ring for the valve.

It's now time to seriously test velocity and accuracy. This is my set up

Image

I tested the excite econ II, its cheap 6$ for 500 and easy to get. I shoot a tin in less then 2 weeks price it's a concern. By the way BRNO advertise a accuracy of 9mm for 5 pellet at 10 meter with basic calculation i get 4.5 mm for 5 pellet at 10 meter. With my avrage just a bit over 470 it's enough accurate for home practice.

There is a picture of the result, 5 shoots at 7 meter in the vise. Now my tau is adjust.around 450-460 fps.

About 20 years ago I shot 10m postal matches with a TAU-7. With a good bulk fill I was getting 75 shots at 485fps using 7.33gr JSB Match (4.49mm). Accuracy was .23" for 5 shots at 10 metres. For powerlets you could set up at 425-440fps with 7.7gr match pellets and still get lots of shots for sighters and a 60-shot match. You could go up a bit for silhouette shooting or long range plinking. For super economy shooting I had a friend set his to around 375fps to give well over 100 shots per bulb. You could probably set up to give 2 x 60 shot fun matches if you only took a couple of sighters at the beginning.

Here's an old review I did on my first TAU-7.
http://web.archive.org/web/200811192329 ... au7Review/

These days my old eyes struggle shooting iron sights indoors. I picked up another TAU-7 a couple of years ago but this one I use just for plinking. I have it set up with a red dot and plink cans at 30 yards. On a windless day it will group 3/4" at 30 yards. It might do a bit tighter with a good fitting JSB Exact. I've never tried the RS or Express versions in this pistol.

I think i read this review 10 times on the net

With my actual set up I shoot around 90 shoot with 7.4 grains and crosman tank, with food grade get around 100.

At 470 I see liquid co2 coming out from the barrel but get around 70 shoots. When club open for sure I will find better pellet and shoot at higer speed, for now i pratice at only 5 meter with reduced target from cct.
