I just saw FX .22 cal pellets north of 30 bucks for a tin on Canada Shooting Supply. Glad I stocked up. 20 bucks for around 200 slugs. Getting close to rim fire prices for just the lead portion of a rim fire round.

I think it's partly because it's a specialty item.
Kinda like going to the hardware store to buy a normal claw hammer for $X.00, then you look around and see a special hammer. Say roofing or framing, and it's double the price.

Not sure if that analogy really works, but it's the specialty items they charge for.

Take the fx rifles for example. Say $3000 for something that can't keep up with a $75 cooey rimfire. At the end of the day, it is what it is and we want what we want.

I want a Cooey.

Like these?
The top 2 are model 60's. The second one down was my Dad's. He bought it in Regina during the war, 1944-ish.
Both have walnut stocks, steel butt plates. I used Dad's for gophers a few times, back in the mid 90's. I shot 101 gophers with
it without moving from my location, prone on a small rise, shooting the rats out to the next mound, 110yards away. It did really
well with SuperX Hp's.

Have you checked the $$ they want from 22lr these days?
- Thunderbolt and Wildcat used to be the cheap stuff to plink with... Now CT wants close to $60/brick
- Dynapoint, went from $15/500 at Walmart, to $60/500... when you can find it.
- Eley club, went from $30/500 to $100/500

WOW - I still have Dynapoint that I paid $12.00 for at Walmart.
Dynapoint, el-cheapo ammo was very accurate, with the odd sub-par shot. One of the rifles likes the 555 - I think that was the Anschutz.

Canadian Tire ammo is grossly overpriced. Walmart also. You need to buy ammo from an actual gun store to get fair prices. At least in my area. Privately owned stores generally have better prices than Cabela's because they need your business.
Big box stores don't.

Lucky for you... in this next of the wood, they seem to think they have the market cornered. If you want something they have on the shelves, maybe they'll be helpful...
:axe:

Most of my airgun plinking is done between 10M-20M, so I can get away shooting the less expensive stuff.
- H&N from Cible Target Canada
- Crossman Premier from Amazon

That's a real bummer. The old 'remote location tax'?

There are some online ammo dealers who sell ammo and ship for free over a certain amount. That might be your best bet.

I am thinking some day I would go back to Crosman too... However I didn't shoot too much and still have some stock in the house...

And didn't see good deals from Amazon for some time now, plus the Crosman in Amazon is not cheap too~

The bulk grizzly .22 pellets on Amazon are not a bad deal and they shoot well enough. The .177 grizzly pellets are not quite as good a price.

The .22 bullets went up when obama became president because people started hoarding it in the u.s. They couldn’t keep it on the shelves, so none made it up hear. When it became available the price almost doubled. It never went back down. My lgs had cci sub sonics in at the time. The owner had to buy it from europe. The us wasnt exporting it. I bought 10 bricks at walmart for like 17 a brick, now over 40. I remember reading on rimfire central they could buy bricks of 500 for 12 dollars on sale before it went up!!

Yeah Daryl. A good Model 60 would be ideal. Yours are sweet. I'd be happy to start with any old, scopable rimfire, even single-shot would do. And I like the new Diana R-22.

Dad's was drilled and tapped for a side mount, which is what I used, but had to cobble the action scope outside ring from other mounts.
They aren't quite right, but work. The scope I have on it, is a 4X, with adjustable turrets and mil dots. Go figure.
The thirst one down, is my Anschutz. What a loverly rifle.

The trick with Amazon, if you are not in a rush for something, is to put you item in your wish list and use camelcamelcamel to track the price.
- the site will send you a notice when the price drop. I got 5x tin of Crosman LUM77 Premier Domed 0.177 for $6.25/each recently
