The Major Con

The major con which is not surprising is that the rear bottle is rated for 200 bar ( clearly marked PW 200 ) yet the gun has a 250 bar max fill. I have a Kral gun where the rear bottle was not rated to the fill pressure, in that case I replaced the rear bottle, it was 61 mm Ø easy to find. The rear bottle on the Tormenta is 50 mm Ø which will make it a lot harder to find, if they are even available in 250 or 300 bar.
A new bottle, $45. 300 bar 61 mm Ø in aluminum or $150 for fiber, bottle extension with a fill port $30. rubber but pad $25. I will not waist any time contacting CSS as in the past I have been told the bottles are not properly engraved, and that they are high pressure rated, which I don not believe .

For now I will run at 200 bar max.

Minor Cons

1: The picitinny rail that was supplied with the gun only has a single mounting bolt. This seems to be a just a cheap generic rail. They could have supplied a long one with a backside dimple so the strap stud could have indexed in it, this would stop the pic rail from rotating sideways on the forearm. There is no way of getting it tight enough to stop it from rotating without a second anchor point. A custom printed pic rail that could be sanded to match the contours would be great.

2: The front scope pic rail is incredibly short it only has one slot. When mounting a pic scope ring in front of the mag slot, you have no adjustment

3: The barrel is only 14 inches long, both a pro and a con.

4: The trigger guard is very thick and tapered making it hard to get a trigger lock on, its only on a couple of clicks.

5: It has a fill probe. More O rings to leak, and one more probe to remember to take.

Pros

1: The gun is very light at 6.4 pounds and short, the main reason I purchased, it is very easy to maneuver. The pistol grip is well suited for my big paws. Once I adapt a new pic rail I will be able to use a bipod extension on range days to eliminate the short gun shake. I was able to see the shake when aiming, I keep forgetting to hit the record button.

2: The Crosman Piranha pellets at 10.6 gr are as accurate as the JSB heavies at 10.3 gr. I was impressed with accuracy even with the short barrel, the 10.6 and 10.3 grouped 14 mm at 25 m over multiple rounds of 5 shots. The Crosman destroyer pellets we're a close third. Though the three pellets are all close in price the Piranha pellets can be purchased locally, 4 stores, and no shipping, I used two different Gamo pellets and both grouped very poorly larger than 30 mm at 25 m.

3: By using the power adjuster one can reduce the velocity from a Max of 1093 FPS to a minimum of 527 FPS. with a 7 grain pellet.

4: The butt pad on the stock can move up and down and extend. The complete stock assembly can be loosened on the bottle with a single set screw and move backwards, for somebody with a long reach.

5: When fired in the shop max sound was 73.5 dba. and with the power adjust to min it was 71 dba. I don't think shop testing for noise is that accurate as pellet impact may be included in the results, only 5 m from muzzle to target.

6: The safety is a cross stud strategically located just above the trigger in the stock, It is easy to disengage with your index finger.

If one of the suppliers brings in an Avengers in .177 in the next month I will be disappointed, but I am trying to cut back on China made products, it is very hard.

Does the dual tank system make it impossible to add a regulator ? I was considering getting the tormenta but i'm not so sure anymore

If the Tormenta is made like the bigmax then no or very hard. The 2 tanks are joined by the drop blocks in the bigmax. If a Reg could be added at the rear tank and filled through it, then the connecting copper line would be at the reg pressure leaving the front tank as a large plenum. I just checked the manual it has a rear drop block and the copper line joins to the front tube at the inner end cap. I think is a hard No.

Well I've had my 177 tormenta for a few weeks now and must say it can perform well. I got to test the power levels a bit in lowest setting it shot AA 10.4's in the mid 480's. Then I set it up for a FT match in the mid 880's using the AA 10.4's which put it rite around 18 ft/lbs. Didn't get much in the line of range card setup but it shot real well. Getting 6, 14 shot mags out of a 200 bar fill down to around 140 bar. That's 84 shots good eough for site-in and a match. The scope I was using was a Discovery 6-24x50. Shot a 48/62. About average for this fat guy in a wheelchair.

Topher, does your barrel stop a little short at the breach, mine is a about .020"short leaving a small gap between the barrel and the mag. I think some pellets bind during loading because of this. I have had mine to the range twice I am happy with it but plan to replace the rear tank. I have ordered a 300 bar bottle and a lane reg I plan on using the front air tube as a plenum. This is my new rat gun and it has proved to be very effective.

Best, Robert

How are the FPS compared to the stated velocity’s: 4.5 mm (.177 Cal) : 1090 fps (8,44gr JSB), 5.5 mm (.22 Cal) : 880 fps (18,13 gr JSB), 6.35 mm .25 Cal :840 fps (25,39 gr JSB)?

My .177 performs very close to the proclaimed velocity. I have not done enough shooting to determine optimum pressure for peak performance. I have the new tank and the reg, but before installation I plan to find that optimum pressure

My .22 also performs similar to stated velocities. Full tank was 950’s I believe. More consistent velocities are in mid 850’s. Shooting Hades 15.89gr. Very accurate so far, can put 10 shots into a 2” circle at 45 yards. Have about 200 shots through it at least so far.

Only complaint so far is it seems to be slowly leaking air, but going to try some silicone oil tomorrow from Crappy Tire or Michaels and see if that does the trick.

I have purchased a .35L 4500 psi in 61 mm Dia. to replace the stock bottle. I have long arms so the additional length will not be a problem. I was unable to find a 4500 Psi tank in 50 mm that would have allowed me to use the original pad. I am placing a bottle regulator on the bottle similar to what I have now on the bottle in the Pic. The Robert Lane reg is the only one of the 3 manufactures of bottle reg I know of, that is good up to 4500 psi. The but pad from my Big Max X will be used till the rubber pad I purchased arrives. After ordering 2 bottles from Canadian sources and receiving the wrong ones, I ordered this one off of AliE. If this all works then I plan to get a Fiber tank from Wes to cut down on weight.

I installed the new tank, but the use of the Bigmax X stock was not possible because new tank was .5 mm over in diameter. I made this wood but pad, held on by double side tape and a snap tie. The larger diameter tank does change eye location a bit, have not shot it enough to determine ideal height of future scope rings.

What is that on the back end of your scope?

I only have one ATN 4k night vision scope, so I keep my original clip on night vision scope on a gun as a backup. Once I get the tormenta 100 % I will put the atn back on it. The clip on has a heads up display which for my eyes is actually easier to use. When I take a shot with the Atn my left pupil is wide open and right is small, it takes about a minute for the right to adjust to the darkness again. I now Raticide 10 nights a month.

What is your con for the shorter barrel? Accuracy wise it shouldn't make a difference. Lower velocity? Louder sound report?

I would be rather dissappointed in a PCP that couldn't group better than 1" at 45 yards. I have springers that do better.

Just stating what I’ve experienced so far. I would be disappointed in anything less as well. I haven’t had a chance to setup any shooting past 45 yards, but I expect to soon.

I have had many springers, mostly cheap ones, but this is my first pcp. They have their advantages and disadvantages, as you know.

What is the “norm” for these guns to lose air over time? I have recently been using a drop or 2 of silicone oil while filling (every 2nd or 3rd fill), but I am not sure if it’s making a difference…

Thoughts?

Jr. there are 10 exterior leak points- Rear tank to block, rear copper tube, front copper tube, relief port, front air cylinder block, front cylinder fill port, fill port, gauge, front block to valve. 13 on mine now. I have lost very little air if any since my last fill maybe a month ago. Most of my guns lose no air or so slow that I don't detect. Spray it down with some soapy water, you will find the leak. If you think it is the valve then cap the barrel with a balloon.
