Thanks to everyone who came out to Port Colborne yesterday. I will get a match report posted soon.
I was just checking the defective wild boar target and - yes - it is defective and was not dropping. Good thing that this was a 'just for fun' lane for most shooters.
I thought that it would show the before and after look. The first is what Jeff captured before we started, the second shows a number of near misses. I count 24 clear strikes on the face and 15 on the paddle. It was a rough day to be a boar!
Thanks again to the Port Colborne club, all the volunteers, and of course the participants.
See you all again soon.

On a day like Saturday, playing the wind is a must, especially for the sub 12 fpe group. If you were holding dead centre on the hit zone, you were probably clipping the edges fairly often if shooting beyond 20 yards. Even some of the high power group were losing shots to wind effect. To make things a little harder, the wind was not only strong, but extremely variable. To add to that, the direction varied as well, depending on what lane you were shooting. The wind would come from the right, sometime quartering away you from the right, sometimes directly behind and once in a while from slightly left and behind. You could also have the wind at the line being slightly different from the wind at the target.

All of the above favours someone who shoots with both eyes open and making hold decisions real time, just as you squeeze the trigger. If you looked at the wind conditions and then looked through the scope, aimed carefully and then released the shot, the conditions could have changed considerably in that amount of time. I had shots where I was holding over for the wind and it just dropped momentarily to next to nothing. I simply moved the crosshairs to centre as I squeezed off the shot and thanked good luck for giving me a small, windless shooting window. Jeff noticed that on a couple of occasions. You just never expect it to be the same on the next shot; that is a completely separate decision.

I played the wind game fairly well, but made up for it with other errors. I forgot to click for a long target three times and totally messed up the standing lane. Just pilot error, some of which is inevitable. But Saturday was one of those days that score did not make any impact on my enjoyment of the experience. It was just a great day in the company of old and new friends, doing something we all enjoy. I'll forget my score before long, but the experience is permanent.

I love this sport and really enjoy the company of others that feel the same way.

Hope to see some of you at Grenville or at the 2022 CAFTA Nationals.
