After reading all this I feel a bit ashamed to be complaining to my doc about my knee hurting at my age
You see I just turned 75 in July I guess I am very lucky
At 60 I was still hunting sheep in the mountains
I am very sorry to hear of some of you having these problems at such a young age
If there is one thing I have learned that makes a difference to a persons health and long life it is family history AND MINE IS GOOD

Broke my back downhill skiing when I was 21yrs old. Been a bit sore ever since.
Doing quite well for 72 but I can't walk much is all.
I can still fish, hunt a bit and shoot - what else is there?

There are a few positives.
Now that I'm 65, I can hunt grouse without a license.
I can also fish without a license, but only for the conservation limit of fish.
If I want to take a full limit of fish, I have to buy the full price, full limit license.

Was forced into early retirement through contract loss at work at age 63.
One of the other positives is having the time to do the things I like- fishing, photography, shooting and hunting.
Some of it I'm getting a little better at- especially the photography.
My shootings a bit rusty now- it's a bit of a drive to do so.
Once I warm up a bit, 12 gauge hulls at 20 yards are no major problem for me and my air rifles.
Air pistol shooting not so much. I can at least still connect on soda cans at reasonable air gun distances.

Oh, and yeah- there's more opportunities to be in the right place at the right time
I can also still walk to hunt- not as far as before, but enough for now.

i just found out that i cant shoot iron sight now as both far both astigmatism and old eyes cant find the target in alignment, have to use scope on everything now.

You can try one more thing before giving up on using iron sights on your pistol. You might want to try a "poor man's" iris/aperture. This works for my bad eyes. All I use is a small piece of liner board (business card, cereal box) with a hole poked using a thick pin. Experiment with the hole size. Tape the aperture to your glasses. If you want to get fancy you can buy an adjustable iris for $140.

When shooting pistols I also use a set of intermediate focal length glasses (and the iris). Once again, there is a "poor man's" work-around for this. You can use regular distance glasses and tape a .75X to 1.0X cheater lens on top of your shooting eye. The dollar stores have the cheater readers for a couple of bucks.

I too have to use readers for pistol work.
Dropping half a diopter from what I normally read with helps with focus on the target.

The blobby plastic front sights that come on a lot of air pistols are a distraction- especially the crosman pumpers.
The P-226 I have here has the white speed dot front, and it doesn't seem to make any difference for me over a regular front.

I am much better with irons on a rifle, provided there is a peep for the rear sight.
I can get good accuracy out of a surprisingly large aperture rear peep.
In both shooting situations, a sharply defined metal front sight helps a lot- the old Redfield sour-dough comes to mind here, or even the plain post on the M-4 .177.

For hunting, I am far better off with a scope, and have been all my life.
There's little point in me making things even more difficult, especially on a hunting rifle.
I have taken grouse and rabbits with the peep and pin front sight, but a scope is much easier work.
