It’s time for the annual Fudd!

The Port Colborne & District Conservation Club will host a Field Target match on Saturday, October 15.

In the spirit of everyone’s favourite hunter – Elmer Fudd (you know, the guy always on the hunt for Bugs Bunny) – we will all use Hunter (or Close-to-Hunter) rules and scoring.

The idea of this match is to come out and have some fun – maybe use a gun that you have not used for a while, maybe try open sights, bring a friend to two. It would be great to continue to see some more new shooters out.

Several regulars at the Fudd are famous for bringing chilli and other delectables for a meal after the match. Please let me know if you are coming ASAP so we can plan accordingly.

For those familiar with Hunter – follow the usual Hunter rules including equipment and the standing and kneeling lanes.

For those that usually shoot Open Modified – for this match it will be “Close-to-Hunter” rules. That means:
• No rangefinders
• No using parallax on your scope to rangefind
• No scope set to over 16x
• No fiddling with your knobs
• No fancy straps and jackets
• You can use a monopod or a bipod not attached to the rifle
• You may sit if you wish for the standing and kneeling lanes

Anyone wishing to go Full Elmer? Try the True-blue Elmer Division – same as both above, but with open sights only!

We will all use Hunter scoring - 2 points for a knockdown, 1 point for a faceplate, 0 for a miss.

This course will be set up a bit easier than usual with larger hit zones and less adventurous yardages.

Match Details:
• This will be a 60 shot match with 1 standing and 1 kneeling lane (or not depending on class).
• Gates will open around 8:30 am. Please try to come out early to help set up
• Sight-in range should be available by 9:30 AM
• Shooter's meeting will be held at 10:00 AM
• Match starts at 10:15 AM
• Match fee is $20

Bring boots – it always could be wet and muddy!

Classes for this match:
Hunter Division
· PCP and Piston classes (20 ft/lb. max)

Junior Hunter Class
· if we have some juniors (20 ft/lb. max)

Close-to-Hunter Division
· PCP and Piston classes (20 ft/lb. max)

True-blue Elmer Division
· Open sights only
· PCP and Piston classes (20 ft/lb. max)

Thanks for replying quickly as always RobG.
I think that I will bring 2 guns and make a game-time decision about open sights or scope.
It was pretty cool to see Harold shoot a regular match with a lower power gun with open sights a month or so ago. This might be a great time to give it a try.

Hi everyone. I am looking forward to seeing all kinds of different setups. One person has told me that they plan to shoot a sub 500 FPS rig.

I received a question from 2 different people about red dot sights in the Full Elmer division - my answer is that I am happy to add another class to the mix for red dots, but I want to keep the True-blue Elmer Division with just the old-fashioned open sights. (And anticipating the next question, either open sights or peep sights).

We are up to 9 replies already and the email blast just went out so I am looking forward to a good turnout.

Keep those replies (and your unconventional setups) coming (just keep them under 20 FPE, and pellets only, max .22 cal).

Thanks Chris.
As of this morning we have 15 signed up.
I have not yet heard from another half dozen that are fairly regular attendees.

I will be joining MacG in True Blue Elmer Piston........but with a bit of a twist.
I intend to use a pre-war BSA..... so about a 100 year old air rifle.
Anyone else with a pre-war airgun care to join me ?

That sounds great Len.
I do not have a gun that old, but I will also be shooting with open sights on my HW50.
There are a couple others who will be going full Elmer as well.

Thanks to everyone that came out and made the 2022 version of the Fudd a great day!!!!
We had 19 shooters out braving the howling winds (at one point I am sure that I saw a girl with pigtails and a small white dog fly past).
I will post the match report and results soon, I just wanted to get this note out and remind everyone to be nice to your guns and wipe them down with some oil since we all got sprinkled on a few times today.
I will include the details of the guns and pellets used - this match has some very interesting ones. Some people shot their usual FT guns, some brought out a backup gun, some got way more exotic including a gun built in 1911 - no that is not a typo - Len brought an awesome BSA to the party.
Thanks to everyone who helped to make this a great Field Target season at Port Colborne. I look forward to seeing you all back next year plus a bunch more.
Huge thanks to Chris, Rob G, and Geoff for feeding us all to the point of bursting after a brisk day in the woods.
