I’m doing a quick review of my Cometa Fenix rifles, I see that a couple of Fenix LT are available at AirCollector.

I got the first Fenix about a year ago. I got it lightly used with a .177 barrel but it’s actually a .22 rifle. It took some effort to sort it. It’s become a favourite and accurate shooter.

I got the Fenix LT just some weeks ago, as a .22.

Ok, what’s different about the new, laminated version? There are 3 main things.

One is the laminated stock. I have two different beech stocks on the other 2 Cometas, I like both those. I like the laminated one, too. It seems harder than the beech, less prone to dings. I haven’t weighed it or measured it, this is just anecdotal. It may be heavier. The pistol grip seems larger.

Another difference is the adjustable cheekpiece. Works great, I like it. I haven’t really utilized it yet but I’m going to start. There may be another scope sometime soon.

The 3rd thing is the trigger, or rear spring guide really. On my older Cometas, the trigger and the rear spring guide are one piece. The guide is a steel tube, embedded in the front of the trigger pack. On the Fenix LT, the trigger and rear spring guide are 2 pieces. The guide is quite light, maybe Delrin? It has a flangey bottom and sits in a depression in the front of the trigger pack.

So far, I think the new rear guide is a real improvement. Sometimes these rifles can ring a little at the end of a shot. But with this new trigger, the report seems quite flat. And the shot seems smoother.

I’ve taken 2 main pieces from the LT and swapped them into the first Fenix. You can see in the photo that I took the nice, new .22 barrel. And I also took the nice, new trigger. The first Fenix is shooting really well right now, targets along the left and bottom in the photo. The target is 3/8" at 17.2m.

The poor Fenix LT is wearing the .177 barrel from the first Fenix. I did my best to ruin that barrel, tore off the front sight in the process. It still shoots straight though. But the LT needs sorting. I’m just about to do a fairly serious overhaul of it. I have a couple spare Fusion barrels, it’ll get one of those next.

Although springers can be tricky to shoot, I think these rifles are perfectly accurate. My shooting continues to improve but I’m playing catch-up.

I got my Fenix LT new, it was reduced in price by 10%. I’m real happy with it. I think the ones on AirCollector, after all, would be $65 less than that. If I didn’t have one, I’d buy it. It’s a very good low-medium priced springer. Ok, that’s it.
