Lead "oxide" is not good for you, but "blacking" sounds suspicious. Handling pellets, as in loading, etc, usually will leave some lead on the
fingers, however blacking them sounds like a lubricant? I cast pure lead balls in sizes from .350" up to .740" in diameter and they do not
"black" my fingers. Neither does loading and shooting my springers, but there is some lead 'wash' (grey) on them after handling pellets.

It's hard to say what made YepYep's fingers blackened after shooting. If it was from the pellets, then I suspect they are graphite lubed (probably with a oil carrier as well). lead alloy pellets shouldn't leave any black on your fingers unless they are coated/lubed. From what I remember air exposed lead forms a whitish oxide. I have some old lead bars kicking around from the 80's when I worked in the lead smelter. There is apparently some controversy over this graphite coating issue, I dug up an old post topic43012.html

Nope nope nope... I think you thought my finger got black coloured and couldn't be washed away?! Nah~ that's not the case... I meaned it's like very similar before when I used the Crosman pellets.

Anyway, I have my 'Lead Off' wipes I bought years ago and still a good wipes to clean my finger tips~

Edit..... And Duke~ you use this pellet too~ didn't you see your 'dirty' fingers?! ;)

NopeNope, I lick my fingers between loading pellets, makes for good lube and easy loading!
When I worked in lead smelter, there was a bunch of guys belonged to a trade called "leadburners", they make all sorts of tings out of lead, sort of like welders do with steel. Anyhow all of them were totally bald, and I bet none lived to over 55. I got deep litter from a couple of them when I designed a fiberglass duct to replace a 100 yr old lead duct. I was into modern material (and of course 10x less weight), but they wanted me to use the company product. I prevailed, but it was a 54" diameter duct and it hung off the top of a tower, and it was pink.. you can guess what they called it. So, I actually take care of handling pellets, and I didn't notice any residue from these Sig Venom, but I only shot a few groups and weighed a bunch of them, and not all in one setting.

Yes, lead oxide is usually white and quite poisonous, apparently. As for baldness from lead fumes, etc, I was going bald long before I started casting bullets - in 1973.
The swimming instructor in basic training called me "baldy". I was 22 yrs. old. This is not to say working with lead won't cause that affliction.

I think of one possibility... I actually didn't notice that before just like you, but last time I mainly using the Pro Sport which I already found I needed to push hard to seat the pellet into the PS breech... Maybe that's the reason because I used more effort with my thumb, so I 'wiped' off more residence and transferred it onto my thumb.....
