This is an oldie from before the long gun registry was scrapped...But it helps explain the current view of firearms in the sitting parliament.

I hope so. I've mailed ~50 letters to MPs and Senators.

I perceive that people are focused on hunting rifles and shotguns, while ignoring that handguns, "look like" and other categories are just sliding through under the ban.

Several people have reported that the RCMP are refusing to approve R-PAL on the basis that these will be banned. What's the legal basis to predict what parliament will do? Very disturbing.

Are we ruled by whim? Apparently.

I'm also not clear on how banning handguns from law-abiding owners will address the inflating illegal handgun smuggling and use. Can anyone explain this?

RCMP not doing their job or actually breaking the law if indeed refusing. I go with the latter.

Of course they are doing their job, and perfectly at that
- They are pushing the government's agenda...

Failure to renew, makes those people automatically criminals, not just for their handguns, but for long-guns as well, once their license expires.

I "kind of" get it if the RCMP are no longer issuing NEW R-PALs.... They could assume if you don't already have an R-PAL you don't have a handgun, and with the new legislation, you can't acquire one.... so you don't need an R-PAL, only a PAL.... but they should then issue you a PAL without undue delay, with a cover letter explaining why....

Of course if they are not processing renewals, that is a totally different thing....

There are still restricted-class long guns that are not part of the handgun "freeze".

And until the law chagting the mountain snow flake icon waes they are paid to do their job.
Like in BC re: snow tires. They were insisting the mountain snowflake icon was the only tire acceptable meanwhile BC law states M+S or mountain/snowflake. They pissed me off. Had to argue with a tire shop and won.

I expect all of those "restricted long guns" are covered in the May 1st prohib. OIC, or in the amendment to C21.
No long guns qualify in a handgun ban/freeze.
