I would like to do a review of this rifle. I've owned it for, I'm guessing, 11 years now. I've used it for shooting gophers out to 56 yards
and have spoken of that here, prior to this point in time. While I would like to do a review on this rifle, I've just watched a review done
by Steve, (AEAC) & I cannot possibly add anything to what he says so well and eloquently.
Please watch the video if you are at all interested in these rifles. (I own 2 of them, a .177 and a .22) The .177 was so good, I just HAD to
buy another. Steve is correct in saying this rifle in .177 shoots a wide range of pellets very well. Mine does this too.

Thanks for posting the link. The rifle is HW so we know the trigger will be nice and the fit & finish will be wonderful. Rather than go through a detailed review, you could post the important data like the muzzle velocity with 7.9gr and maybe 10.6gr and some target pics (with measurements) at 50 yards. I'm curious. I would also like to know the rifle weight with and without your optics mounted.

I quickly scanned the video but plan to watch it all sometime later. I'm not fond of the "minimalist" carving on the buttstock of the new HW rifles. The previous design was more appealing IMO.

I agree this is the best springers on the market. Here is my HW97KT in 177 with a Discovery VTT 4-16X50 FFP scope. With a V-Mach kit installed, it is shooting JSB Exact 8.44gr at 773 fps very consistently, perfect for HFT. I like it better than my TX200HC.

It still shoots with a bit of a jolt, but not too bad at all for a springer. It worked so well that I did OK in many HFT matches with it.

They are great shooting rifles. I have both 177 and .22.
The top pic. was my .177 Blackline as purchased.
Then, both .177 and .22, with the TH stock on the .177 and .22 below with standard stock.
The bottom picture is the .22 on the thumbhole stock. I exchanged stocks, between the two
& sold the black plastic stock to one of our members here?

Yeah~ couldn't agree more about the HW97~ at very beginning, I was afraid of the weight of this under lever shooter, when I getting use to the weight from the Pro Sport to the FWB300 then, I like that extra weight which greatly help to balance the recoils from the springers...

Then, which I planned on the 22 cal black line that just sold but got another177 cal instead, I right away fell in love with this great shooter!!

Neither of mine are bag-sensitive, except that neither of them like a rear bag when shooting off a bench.
They, .177 and the .22 will both make tiny, 3/8" groups at 44 yards. 8.44gr. 4.51 & 4.52mm in the .177 and 15.89gr. Hades in the .22.
At close ranges, the .177 will still shoot 1/2" to 1" with a dozen other pellet makes and weights, however it does have a favourite, just like the .22 version.

How about the HW77? Any reason to choose it over the 97 ?

I did want a 77 before, especially the laminated special version... However I got the opportunity to get a 97 and as I need scopes, compare to the other gun which comes with open sight and then I put a scope on, I truly believe scope is not a very valuable option for the 77... So, I glad I bought a 97 not a 77 now....

So If you shoot with open sights, buy the 77, and it comes with the nicely functions and made HW open sight, and you can save the money on buying a scope which not come with the 97 when you buy a 97~

A friend of mine just got a used HW77 laminate a couple of weeks ago. He's currently shooting it with the OEM iron sights but will mount a scope soon. He also has a William's aperture sight arriving so that's another option.

The HW77 is quite versatile. It shoots fine with the OEM iron sights. You can easily remove the rear sight and install optics. You can also use a rear aperture sight on the 11mm rail with the OEM post sight up front. Some guys use the William's, with or w/o target knobs, but you can get a fancier target style aperture sight as well. You can remove the HW77 front sight and install a tunnel with interchangeable inserts. The tunnel front with a Williams aperture sight would be a fun combo to try. Install a soft 650fps spring (.177cal) for a nice 10m basement rifle for winter shooting. When the snow melts you can switch out the spring for full power, mount a scope and head to the field target matches.

I would say yes, if you want to shoot metallic sights. No, if just a scope. The shorter barrel on
the HW97 has the potential to be more accurate due to shorter barrel "time" of the pellet. This
potential may or may not be measurable.

Scoping the HW77 is the same as scoping the HW97. The only difference is that a sight screw has to be loosened on the 77 so the rear sight can slide off. After that it's the same process to apply mounts to the 11mm dovetail and install the scope. The laminated stocks even appear to have the same comb heights.

To add to the choices, the HW77k can also be found with the same blue laminated stock as the HW97. You will also see various colours and shades of brown/grey/green camo lam stocks for the 77. You could special order a HW97k with the brown/grey/green camo stock. And they can likely both be ordered with the shiny chrome/stainless finish metal.

I guess it all comes down to how long a barrel you want and whether you want the option of irons sights or a muzzle brake. Then you choose what wood you like.

How difficult is swapping the spring on these?
