I'm not a gun designer, whether firearm or airgun, but I think even armatures can make a simple marble launcher.

The base idea is to have a cheap, and easy to make "launcher" that launches large enough projectiles which are cheap and can be easily found, even at the dollarstore - so marbles seem to fit the bill for that.

What I think I will need, is some

- a pvc pipe that is large enough to just fit a marble in with just a little room, and is also not to small.

- a high-compressions spring (I guess any air-rifle spring should work)

- something to attach onto the spring to use as a "bolt" to pull the spring back and compress it.

- something like a washer or what not to stop the spring when it goes forward.

Is there anything I am missing, or should my idea work in theory?

I certainly will, I am planning on making it a simple and modular design, so it can be taken apart, for easy carry in pocket even, and of course to "clean".

I think I may switch ammo to gum balls though.

The problem with glass is breakage - chunks not too bad, but shards & splinters are.

As said, I am going to switch to gumballs, because they don't have that same type of breakage problem and are also cheap and easy to get.

Here is a rough drawing, of my plans.

As you can see it can all be contained within a single pipe, or maybe two.

Obviously Einstein was not an Engineer....

Twiggy, at the risk of showing my ignorance, what propels the gumball?.... Compressed air, or a collision with something propelled by the spring (other than air)?....

I was thinking compressed air, as what I will have "stopping" the spring will still have holes in it, to allow air to go trough when the spring is released.

So you will need a piston that seals in the cylinder, like a Springer....

Ah, I'll switch to a collision method then, as I also intended my design to be easy for others to replicate with everyday tools. Requiring a piston would make that not possible.

A collison model I assume would be simpler to replicate, as you'd just need to attach something to the end of the spring that will collide and push the gum ball out the barrel?

So tomorrow I am going to be going back to my usual seclude and activities meaning I should be able to buy some gum balls from a machine in the local mall.

I will of course need the gumball first, to get the right size PVC pipe and use the gumball to help measure that.

Gumballs are interesting enough, similar size to paintballs, which are commonly 68 and 50 cal. Not sure about bolt action but there is pump.

Now in my misspent youth we had a marble launcher albeit not bolt action.

My buddies and I would head down to the toy store buy a bag of marbles then head over to the hardware store
and buy or supply of cannon crackers preferably the 4 to 6 inch ones.
The marble goes down the one side of your bike's handle bars and the firecracker down the other side
put the wick through the hole in the grip before you put it back on the handle bar. Light it and aim it the best you could.
Was always a good idea to loosen the bars and have them pointing forward.
Can't even imagine kids today having that much fun.
