Thanks to AGS, I receved my new .22 cal FX Dreamline Classic in walnut stock yesterday.
Fisrst impression is you get what you pay for as always. The fit and finish, mechanical fittness is amongst the best I ever experienced in an airgun. It felt like a finely built Swiss watch.
I am a target shooter, as such I like to shoot single shot, not with the rediculously high 18 round factry mag. Frankly, I don't even own any tall scope rings to fit it, and I have a lot of scope rings. Finally, settled on using SprorsMatch high rings and my best scope-Hawke AirMax 6-24X50 FFP on it.
I want to set it up for FT, however 22 cal trajectory is loopy so it will be a bit of challenge for me. I read Mac's post that it can be done, also my buddies Chris H, Mike P tells me how they set up 22 cal to shoot FT as well, that gave me some courage to try it.
The factory set up as received was shooting hotter than I like. With factory reg setting of 125 bar, it was shooting 13.43gr JSB Exact RS at 981 fps with the power adjuster set at Medium level. Ideally, I need the gun to shoot as close to the max. of 20 fpe as possible. That means it should be about 810 fps with 13.43gr RS pellets.
I started by leaving the front Power wheel at Medium setting. (a differet version of the gun actually has the caliber 177/22 printed in place of the Medium on the front wheel.) I started the reg setting from 105 bar, played with the hammer spring tension. Finally, I ended up with reg setting of 120 bar and achieved my under 20 fpe goal.
In betwee power setups, I manage to put 3-4 coats of my favorite Antique Oil on the beautiful walnut stock. It is now nicely protected.
Tomorrow, I will do a complete shot string to find out the shot count and accuracy. Even during tuning, I can see pellets going into the same hole at 50 ft. So please stay tuned.ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Tom, very nice and good work on your tuning.
I found this 910 guy's tuning video on the Dreamline (.25) on AirGun 101.

I have finally finished with my re-finish. Turned out OK.

Hi Bob,

The gun is new, I think it meeds time to break in. So far, shot to shot variation is good, shot count is not bad either. I just worry about lots of POI shifts. I think I will do more shooting before fine tuning and doing the shot string.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Daryl,

Lots of info, thanks. I saw that, it is surely time consuming to do it properly. I think my gun has potential to shoot as good as what's shown on Youtube. Still working on fine tuning. My previous shot string see many flyers and sudden POI shifts. The barrel is new and dirty. The reg needs more time to settle. My excuses for not showing work in progress. When I am ready, it will be shown.

Thanks,

Tom

Thank-you for including us in the working up experience.

I have a Streamline .22 in walnut so am interested in gleaning what I can which applies, regarding your Dream experience.

I've had to monitor the barrel shroud as it has come loose several times, apparently due to large changes in temperature.

IDK whether that's a consideration, but FWIW. Temperature at the range was 3C, while indoors is 20 C which seems to be enough to create the loosening.

Hi Norm,

I only shot indoors so far, did noticed POI shift. I pulled a few patches through and it is back to one hole accuracy.

As far as I know, your Streamline is a better gun. Dreamline seemed to me is a scaled down version.

I am sure the theories are the same for tuning. Glad to help if any info I shared here is useful to anyone.

Thanks,

Tom

I got around to cleaning my barrel as well. It was VERY dirty. Guess I should have cleaned it before I shot it as well. I was in such a hurry, I neglected cleaning it first.
It is clean now. I didn't have anything but WD40. Guess I could have used pell-gun oil. Hope I didn't do any damage to O rings.

I finally tabulated the shot string. See attached. Shooting JSB Express 14.35gr at 786 fps on average, the reg setting is 120 bar.
Due to the shape of the curve with fps going up after going off reg. I readjusted the reg down slightly to around 115 bar. The gun really liked it now. The report is also a bit lower.Image

Hi Daryl,

I bought Ballistol oil from Canadian Tire. I think it does not hurt the o-rings.

Thanks,

Tom

I'll pick some up after new years, I guess. My brother and a close friend tried to use it as a gun oil after cleaning their muzzleloading rifles during a humid time and their rifles were rusted
in the morning.
It is water soluble, so makes a very poor rust protector. If used as a solvent, it should be fine for O rings.

90 shots @ 20fpe - WOWZER!!!!!
