Hi i was wandering if haveing a high preload shorter throw hammer spring preload
setting is hard on the hammer spring or gun in any way.My bengamin cayden in 22
if i cock the gun i have 12 full cw turns to reach spring bind uncocked there are 14
turns to spring coil bind.In order to get 900 fps with jsb 15.89 hades i must set my
hammer spring to six and a half turns in or prelaod cw from full ccw or even with
reciever this would be about 50% preload in total.Since i replace the nicked barrel
orings both and the power adjuster oring on moe side i have found i cn now go from
about 24 full power shots to 36 or more but didnt realy increase my velocity yet ?
I should be getting over 900 fps with the hs set at 1.5 turns in cw from ccw shouldnt
i.It seams like so many people with this rifle are getting over 950+ with this pellet
in their guns and even 900 fps with the jsb 18.13s ? i would get about 850 for the
first 10 shots with these pellets.Any thoughts anyone on whats the next move.
Should i send the rifle back to the crossman place here in canada they are
schedualing a service call for me ..Thanks again the cayden shoots one hole
groups at this power setting .

FFMan, you are obsessed with the velocity. I went to the Benjamin website, there claim is 1000 fps at 32 fpe, if you work that out that is with a 14.3 gr. It is possible that there is small burr somewhere in that gun that is causing turbulence, or a restriction. If you have replaced orings, is there a reason why you did not do a complete tear down? I have never done a tear down on a new gun as I believe there are so many factors that can effect velocity that I have never been concerned. I would be happy great accuracy not max velocity.

I "see" little to ZERO advantage in 900fps over 850fps, as 850fps is likely more accurate.
It is shooting 900fps with the Hades, which is about a 70 to 80yard pellet for hunting.
There will be next to zero measurable improvement in trajectory over normal ranges as well.
As McRobert notes, tune it for accuracy, not top speed.
The difference between 900fps and 850fps with the same JSB 18 gr. pellet, both zeroed at 50yards, is
1.32" at 100yards - from ChairGun chart. Drop at 100 from a 50yds. zero 14.8", vs. 16.42" - all else equal.
At the muzzle, the difference is about 3.5fpe., & at 100 yards it's 1.30fpe.

Thanks a bunch Daryl and McRobert you guys are the best.Yes i have two tunes one at 4.5 turns and
one at 6.5 turns for full knock down power. Both are very accurate at 30 yard but i agree the hs set at
4.5 turns in for 884 fps with the jsb 15.89 pellets hades are the most accurate for sure.I will test the
jsb 18.13 jumbo exacts with 5.52 heads for speed and accuracy at this setting then again at 6.5 turns
in for accuracy and speed.Once these tests are completed i will choose a finel setting and leave it there.
If i can get 30-40 shots while out for a days hunting that will be plenty and i can always just turn down
my power adjusted a notch or two for lighter pellets or target shooting. My best shot count at any hs
setting is from 3000 down to about 2200 psi..Things are starting to come together now.Oh i get about
36 full power shots now that the nicked orings are fixed with full power fill and 4.5 turns preload.
Thangs again and happy shootin cant waite for summer lol, :D

Glad you've got it together, pretty much, now.
Accuracy is THE main thing to strive for as long as there is "enough" power
for the range you wish it use the rifle.
My gopher shooting buddy and I have set ranges for rifles - ie: up to 100yards, we use our .22 Semi-Auto RF's, from maybe 75 to 200yds, it's the .17 HMR's and over 200, the CF .17's and .22's come out to play. We got really excited about the VERY long shots and now there are no 500yard gophers at the farms. Decimated them from those fields.

Now that I've ventured into the air rifle field, the .22 RF's might not be needed at all, but the air rifles do have a purpose and that is shooting in and around the out buildings of the farms we shoot
at. .22 RF's are just too bouncy for that and the .17HMR's too loud.

For over 200 yards I just use my 22 /250 with 24 power scope she is one fast and accurate round.Well time to hook up the sleds and get out and catch some big Sask lake trout they are bitting lol.thanks again for all your help

Below the answering post box, is a box labeled File Name and below that File Content. This is for attaching 'files' or pictures. Beside the word "Browse" is a box No file selected.
Click on Browse which will take you to your computer, find the picture you want to upload (as long as it's 700kb or smaller), double click on that and then click on Submit.
The picture is a mayfly which hatch in July at the lake. Total length of these mayflies like this one, a mature adult, is very close to 4".

NICE lake trout!! A smoker!!
Many years ago, I whacked a 24 pound Lake Trout in Clukas Lake just West of here - 90 pound stainless line and a T-50 flatfish, dug him out of the rocks at 85 feet, trolling.
It was wonderful smoked fish. My friend who lives out at the lake, smoked it for me. We had to cut the fillets in 1/2 lengthwise, then on 4 angled racks to fit into his Fridgadair smoker.

Good whitetail too. VERY nice - any buck is a trophy with archery equipment.
