In 1977 in my home town of Port Colborne.

Drift in centre and left was over top of the telephone poles. Snow was packed rock hard. Some streets had walls over 10" high. Lake Erie was frozen over and had about 10 inches of powder snow on it that blew onto the north east end of the lake where Port Colborne, Ft Erie and Buffalo, NY happen to be located. Temperature was -40 and winds were wicked. Huge equipment came in to get access to areas of town. Snow was trucked away and dumped in our control canal that has a fairly swift current.
Community pulled together and there were no casualties. People were stranded all over the place and people took them in and fed them, myself included as I was stranded halfway home from the school I was teaching at. Snowmobiles were the life lines to isolated folks.

Had a full week off school before things were open enough. Did a lot of tobogganing and sledding for a week.

An experience to remember for sure. Ever since then I just deal with the snow as it comes and try to enjoy getting out in it when I can.

That's a LOT of snow, Mac. Oh yeah - Southern Ontario drifting snow freezes hard. That day back in 71, I had to dig my Opal Rally Cadet out of the snow bank - it was completely covered, then I drove over to buddy Ron's place, picked him up, then over to Glen Weir's house, then we had to walk out to Glen's Dad's shop on Commissioner's(The Dorchester) Road to feed the cow that was
in the garage & make sure she had enough straw and hay. LOL Had to walk out as the blower had only done the village streets, 1 1/2 lanes wide.

My Sears Craftsman lasted over 20 years and when I moved I sold it to the neighbour and it still going. Wonder why Sears went out of business? Wonder no more. :)

Well I didn’t thought about it last week, but today I did bring my camera with me when I went snowshoeing. Weather was about perfect, about -23°C, light gusts of 15-20 km/h, barely perceptible in the wood, and a super bright sun. I walked about an hour and a half, I did half the blue trail and all the red one. The shower was more than needed when I got back home LOL! Welcome to the Parc des 2 Rivières in East-Angus!

Hate snow! Only good thing about winter is furnaces breakdown. I capitalize on others misfortune. LOL
