Found something unusual when looking at the bill.

There is a section that would permit other security guards to carry firearms. From my understanding the only security guards in Canada that can carry firearms that I know of are the ones working for armoured truck companies such as Brinks.

I just find it weird why they would include it in a gun control bill :?

As far as I can see, it authorizes the use of prohibited weapons, so it just gives them more firepower to deal with perpetrators who have superior weapons at present. For everyday folk, as I see it, it is just another turd thrown into the septic tank of C21.

Only security guards for federal institutions, so not regular security guards.

I found this interesting and shows why air soft guns were listed.
"In Medicine Hat, Alberta’s sixth-largest city, interim chief of police Alan Murphy told local media that the handgun freeze could very well lead to a number of “unintended consequences.”
“I think motivated criminals will continue to get guns no matter what legislation is in place,” said Murphy. “So, I think what you’ll see is potential for increased smuggling of guns, increased prevalence of ghost guns in our communities all across the country and likely an increase in airsoft gun conversions.”

I was not aware that some air soft could be converted. I thought their inclusion was simply due to appearance/replica status.

There are lots of videos on the airsoft conversions. This video shows a conversion that has held up for 1000 rounds so far. Conversion done with regular household tools.
