So I've been going down lots of expensive rabbit holes lately. Today I bought a used Hatsan at44. 25. Buyer said it was unregulated and had the hammer spring turned up. Supposed to shoot 800 fps with 29 gr slugs. This is my first pcp. What do I need to know before shooting it for the first time?
Thanks

Did he go over how to properly and safely fill it? I will have my first PCP Tuesday. There should be some really good YouTube vids to watch on that model.

Nice looking unit!
Enjoy!

Hatsan AT44 is a great PCP rifle. There are many many threads on here about this model and it's later version the BT65 (a bit more powerful, but similar internals). These came standard form the factory without regulators as that was the norm at the time. So it will shoot with a bell curve, velocity increasing for the first string, reach a peak then decline. The hammer spring is not easily adjusted. You can drill a hole in the back of the stock (below the safety button) to access the adjustment hex head, but you also have to hold the hammer from turning by inserting an allen key (or something) up a hole in the underside by the trigger. For efficiency, there are some ways to plug the holes in the valve, generally the lower holes point away from the TP get plugged forcing the air more directly towards the TP. I believe the valve has 5 or 6 holes. The valve stems have different thickness as well, and that affects the power. For the non-PAL versions it was this valve stem which was very thick, that restricts the velocity - yours will be a thin one. But various ranges of diameter will allow more air through and can be used for tuning. For shooting it, just clean the barrel, pump it up, its good for 3000 psi. Examine the air cylinder for rust and leaks, attend to either. They can leak from various orifices, but they are dead simple to reseal. One troublesome seal is the valve seal, plastic with an annular o-ring. Sometimes the cylinder needs a quick blast of air from a tank to get it to seal, and sometimes you just need to replace it. I had one tube with a FUBAR pressure guage, but was able to replace it. Since it's a used one, check your stock bolts for tightness and have at her. I really love my AT44, one of my keepers. BTW you can buy an aftermarket regulator, I have one in mine - no bell curve. Mine is .22 non-PAL and I get >100 shots on a fill, and I have the short cylinder. Which reminds me there are 2 air cylinder lengths for these rifles. Post up some pics when you get it in hand. :drinkers: Some pics attached, PM me if you have issues you can't resolve.

I can't figure out how to post pictures. Any pointers

He gave me a long Allen key to hold the hammer. He said it's good for 18 shots the way it is now with 180 cc cylinder

I did a short tutorial some time ago on pictures, I can't find it ATM.
Resize the picture so it's under 750 kB in size; this website doesn't like huge pictures and if you're using aphone to take pics or hi res camera the picture will be a few MB.
Then go for the Upload Attachment ----> Browse then select the file, and then click the Add the file box. It's really that simple. You can upload 3 attachments (each less than 750 kB) per post. If you need to ad more, just reply to you post and add 3 more, etc, Ill put a picture below.

That should be the short cylinder, the long allan key is what you poke in the rear to get at the spring tension adjuster, You need a regular allan key to shove up underneath to hold the hammer from rotating as you turn the long one to adjust the hammer spring. Otherwise the whole thing just rotates and no tension changes.
HIH.

The guy I got it from lost the cap off the barrel threads. I want to find something to cover them up. I was thinking about an air stripper but don't know if that is a good idea or not.

It's a good idea. I put a stripper on mine and it tightened up the groups. You have to adjust the stripper to get it to work well. topic53206.html

The previous owner plugged three of the holes in the air chamber already.

I read there were differences in the build from early to late models. Any one know which category this one would fall into?

I got mine from CAF store, but Dan doesn't seem to have any now. Canada Shooting has them https://canadashootingsupply.ca/product ... pper-0-25/

you can get a regulator on Amazon, but you need to see which valve you have. The early ones are not threaded at the valve stem end, they are class normal. the H class ones came later, they are threaded. that may tell you if yours is early or late model. https://www.amazon.ca/s?k=hatsan+at44&c ... -doa-p_1_9

I saw the regulators on there. Will a regulator make a noticeable difference?
They have the air strippers listed too, but none in .25. I just want to cover the threads up for now, keep me from damaging them in case I want them later.
