I am hearing rumours about some recent game changes in USA regulations. I know for years the ITAR was a thingy if I wanted to buy a better scope new from some US stores, but I had never problem with used - second hand stuff, marked as such on the box.
I have now a post in a US forum classifieds for "WTB a target scope".
I got a pm offer today and it is attractive, but a person is not sure can he "export" the scope across the border, and how to do it? He may be able to ship the package to "myUSaddressInc" in Niagara (I was using it for years - earlier), but I am not vaxed and now I cannot enter the US borders ...
Anybody have a recent experience shipping/mailing from USA to Canada?

(a side note: I am talking about a target scope - Weaver T36).

Been rules for many years that US stores SHALL not ship scopes to Canadians. I asked a Customs fellow in PG some time back and he said he didn't care. LOL
I asked about a trade, me trading a scope for one from the States. He said no problem, just pay the taxes on the Canadian retail and that's it. So, there are
various stories. I haven't tried buying one from a Store. I've been told it won't happen. Same with triggers, bullets and ctg. brass, but getting those things
from private citizens seems OK.
Only way to find out is to ask a store down there, I suppose. I bought a scope from a guy (private citizen) down in Texas 15 years ago and it came though, NP.
He picked it up from the store which would not sell it to me - Midway - then he sent it to me.
When Pres. Obama was "in" he made a bunch of changes to cross border exporting of goods with fees to the US store or person doing it. One store in Montana
told me they couldn't sell me a Mauser bolt part as the export license to send to Canada was $1,500.00 per year. That's what they said to me on the phone. Gentry
was the business. I found it:

I know earlier years ITAR was a roadblock, and all my new scopes I was buying from EU, specifically I like dealing with KraleShop-Netherland.
But this is a used-second hand scope now. 10 yard parallax means airgun use...
And some changes happened in a very recent one or two years, now even the private sellers in some states must ask for permits ($$$ grab) in order to mail optics across the border, even to a non mainland US territories.

Edit: forgot to say...the Canadian customs don't care until you pay duty for incoming packages, the restriction is on US outbound side.

I drove to the USA twice last year and never needed a vax certificate. The last trip was in November. We didn't need the vax to come back home either. We crossed the borders both ways without any problems.

My Atn Scope was seized at the Miami airport. The Exporter did not file for the permit. I did in its place a 10 doc from Customs.

I did get a refund, and then reordered from the same company on the Canadian site, it was Delivered about 2 weeks later.

Have a Great Day
Robert

If you got the vax = you are in the system. The AI software in border officer's hands is a very powerful tool.

You know what is funny? :)
I am trying to sell this scope for couple months to collect a money for some nice dedicated target scope T36 or T46.

topic93207.html

First I was asking $400, but edited to $250, and still nobody show up in my pms asking to buy. And that scope is fantastic glass, I wanted to sell only because I was bored of it.
Well, considering all what may be coming to us, me better just keep going with that Nikko ;)

ATM you need to be vaxed to enter the USA if you are not a U.S. citizen, Lawful Permanent Resident., or U.S. national. https://www.dhs.gov/news/2021/10/29/fac ... -terminals
Note the regulations state: ...and provide proof of vaccination upon request.
So may not get asked for proof. My sister-in-law and her husband who are not vaxed tried to cross at Buffalo/Fort Eire last month and they were refused entry and escorted back. Apparently they were told no vas no USA, and to check the website before they try it again - the requirement *will be lifted sometime, who (not WHO) knows when?
I think coming into Canada since Arrive Can was ditched last year no one cares on this side.
