Let’s get the season started! The Port Colborne & District Conservation Club will host a fun airgun shoot on Saturday, April 15.
The idea of this match is to come out and have some fun – maybe get your new scope figured out, maybe use a gun that you have not used for a while, maybe try open sights, maybe shoot it with a sub 500 FPS rifle, and definitely bring a friend to two. It would be great to continue to see some more new shooters out.
It is early in the season and we may not have our usual lanes available but I want to get us all out shooting! The plan may be adjusted a bit depending how many lanes are available and water levels.
The format will be pretty much freestyle however in general this is what we will set up for:
30 shots rifle – typical Field Target type setup from 10 – 55 yards although a bit more forgiving than a usual match setup.
20 shots pistol – shorter setup – likely 10 – 25 yards.
This will be freestyle – so if you want to use a rangefinder – go for it, want to use a bipod or tripod – no problem, want to put a 30x scope on your CO2 pistol – knock yourself out, want to shoot all 50 shots standing with a pistol, one handed – sounds great!
There are a few rules though that are not negotiable:
Only .177 or .22 caliber airguns allowed
Lead (or lead alloy) pellets only – no BBs and no slugs
All rifles must be less than 20 FPE
All pistols must be under 500 FPS
Eye protection mandatory
As an example, I will likely bring my usual FT rifle for the rifle portion (TX200 plus Vector Tourex 6-24 scope) and follow the usual Hunter Division rules – but I just bought a $120 sub 500 rifle and am tempted to give it a go. I have not decided what pistol to bring yet either, perhaps my 2240, perhaps my Airbug .177 - and then open sights or red dot??? I expect that several of you will face the same type of decisions – the good news is that there is no wrong answer!
We will use Hunter scoring - 2 points for a knockdown, 1 point for a faceplate, 0 for a miss.
This course will be set up a bit easier than a usual FT match with larger hit zones and less adventurous yardages (but we may throw in a couple challenges just to keep you interested).
