Let’s get the season started!

The Port Colborne & District Conservation Club will host a fun airgun shoot on Saturday, April 15.

The idea of this match is to come out and have some fun – maybe get your new scope figured out, maybe use a gun that you have not used for a while, maybe try open sights, maybe shoot it with a sub 500 FPS rifle, and definitely bring a friend to two. It would be great to continue to see some more new shooters out.

It is early in the season and we may not have our usual lanes available but I want to get us all out shooting! The plan may be adjusted a bit depending how many lanes are available and water levels.

The format will be pretty much freestyle however in general this is what we will set up for:

30 shots rifle – typical Field Target type setup from 10 – 55 yards although a bit more forgiving than a usual match setup.

20 shots pistol – shorter setup – likely 10 – 25 yards.

This will be freestyle – so if you want to use a rangefinder – go for it, want to use a bipod or tripod – no problem, want to put a 30x scope on your CO2 pistol – knock yourself out, want to shoot all 50 shots standing with a pistol, one handed – sounds great!

There are a few rules though that are not negotiable:
Only .177 or .22 caliber airguns allowed
Lead (or lead alloy) pellets only – no BBs and no slugs
All rifles must be less than 20 FPE
All pistols must be under 500 FPS
Eye protection mandatory

As an example, I will likely bring my usual FT rifle for the rifle portion (TX200 plus Vector Tourex 6-24 scope) and follow the usual Hunter Division rules – but I just bought a $120 sub 500 rifle and am tempted to give it a go. I have not decided what pistol to bring yet either, perhaps my 2240, perhaps my Airbug .177 - and then open sights or red dot??? I expect that several of you will face the same type of decisions – the good news is that there is no wrong answer!

We will use Hunter scoring - 2 points for a knockdown, 1 point for a faceplate, 0 for a miss.

This course will be set up a bit easier than a usual FT match with larger hit zones and less adventurous yardages (but we may throw in a couple challenges just to keep you interested).

Match Details:
• Gates will open at 8:30 am. Please try to arrive around then to help set up
• Sight-in range should be available by 9:30 AM and will stay open a bit longer than usual since some people will have more than 1 gun to dial in.
• Shooter's meeting will be held at 10:15 AM
• Match starts at 10:30 AM
• Match fee is $20 (your first match at Port Colborne is always free)

Bring boots – it could always be wet and muddy!

Classes for this match:
Freestyle
All rifles must be under 20 ft/lb energy
All pistols must be under 500 ft/sec velocity

You Could get an Economy flight for less than $300 and Uber to the range . HAHA is only 13Km. away !

Sorry wrong shoot and location Port Colborne is a little further away . Rob27 you are correct , but maybe you should consider coming to Hamilton for another shoot now you know how easy it would be to get here . Thank you for the heads up Rob27 .

As much as I like your enthusiasm to bring in more shooters Pete, the April 15 shoot is at Port Colborne - about 80 KM from the Hamilton airport. The match 1 week later is at the Hamilton club. So even better Biagio, come for the week and attend both!

Sounds like a great idea fellas.

That would be awesome, as soon as I find that cloning machine, to make at least four of myself. I’m a little short staffed right now, and the busy season has already started. Business is booming, and I’m working like a dog.

Sorry guys, maybe next time. If all goes well, I might be able to make it to the Nationals this year.

Biagio

Hi everyone. Happy Easter!
I just checked the forecast for next Saturday and it is A GREAT DAY FOR SHOOTING!
Overnight low is 9 degrees, daily high is 14 degrees, mix of sun and cloud and light breeze.
Thank you to everyone that has posted or sent me a note, it looks like we will have a great bunch out for this first shoot of the season.
I have spoken to a few people who - like me are still not quite decided on what gun(s) they will bring, but several are considering something different - like a vintage rifle, or a 10M rifle, or like my leading candidate; a sub-500 gun with a cheap scope.
If you are coming please send me a note or reply in the forum so I have an idea of how many shooters we will have.
If you are undecided - definitely send me a note so that I can convince you to come.

Everyone, please ensure that you bring eye protection - with low powered guns this is even more important than usual. Also make sure that you have rubber boots with you - I am not sure if it will be wet, but much better to have them in the car and not need them than to not have them with you.

It is looking like it will be a great day, a fun shoot, and a great way to start the season - come on out!!!

Another teaser ...
I am not sure which of these targets will see action on Saturday but I am looking forward to having some of them in play.

Usually, people leave after the last shot was taken and the results are announced, typically around 2:30 pm or so. Many of us stay extra time to help with target take down, say another 1/2 hour or so.

Target touch-up in process...

The pretty targets are not as robust as our regular ones so please bring a pistol or sub-500 rifle for the pistol portion.
If you do not have one, send me an email or a PM.... I am happy to bring a few spares.
