With an FX and maybe all other regulated rifles, you could reduce the regulator pressure and hammer spring until it won't put a pellet out the muzzle.
For a non-regulated rifle, reducing the hammer spring tension or replacing it with a weaker spring will reduce velocity and thus noise. Longer barrels
are quieter than shorter barrels.

Generally speaking, for the same FPE, achieving that with higher pressure and a shorter dwell will produce a quieter shot.... Generally that will not require valve mods, although with some guns enlarging the ports to allow a shorter dwell for the same power would help.... That depends on how well the gun breathes to start with....

Whether increased pressure is possible will depend on whether the gun is regulated or not, and on an unregulated PCP is generally not possible because they are already operating at their maximum safe pressures.... If all you do is increase the pressure, without reducing the hammer strike to decrease the power, you will end up with more noise, not less.... Shorter dwell is the key to lowering the report....

as Bob said shorter valve open time reduces air flow after the pellet leaves the barrel which produces most of the noise. On FX impacts you can adjust valve lift which significantly reduces noise. You can achieve the same with increased regulator pressure or increased valve spring preload.

ok i thought it was the opposite a smaller transfer port would reduce the noise...so larger transfer port higher pressure and less hammer tension would help the muzzle noise?

Smaller port reduces noise, but also drops speed too.

so does the size of the transfer port not effect the dwell....how do you adjust the dwell...and im talking about regulated pcp
