is it just me or does this statement contridict what its telling you to do.....maybe a typo?

At any given pressure level there is a maximum velocity that physically cannot be exceeded. This is called the “plateau”. Generally, the velocity that provides the best trade off between power and efficiency with a regulated airgun exists about 95% below the plateau, hence the “95% Rule”. The specifics of this phenomenon aren’t that important to the tuning process but it mostly has to do with getting the valve dwell dialed in to a point where the valve closes just before the pellet leaves the barrel. That way, most of the barrel is being used for acceleration and no air is wasted.

Since our sweet spot is ~95% below our plateau we want our target velocity to be** 5%**?? lower than our maximum velocity at our regulator set point.

I have a hard time grasping this as well?

I think it all comes down to the most efficient use of the air and max out the shot count?

This theory is good and correct. I used it to tune my CZ200 and have very good and satisfying result. Enough power, much better shot counts and quiet.

However my cz200 is not regulated. I actually not very understand how to use it on regulated PCPs in real world... As the result looks not that obviously like on my cz200.

And I also heard ppl need to do this precisely if you want to shoot slug well on your high power PCP. Because that excessive air following the slug when the slug left the muzzle will greatly affect the accuracy (affect how the slug to fly to the target...)

I just finished tuning my CR600w .177-500fps (CO2) by means of opening the transfer port a little bit and chopping the hammer spring. Out of the box we were getting 35-40 good shots per CO2 cylinder now it’s 95 and the velocity is the same.

The other day I finished tuning my stormrider (regulated) it now launches 10.34gr@620fps with roughly 140-150 shots per fill.

Tuning sure can take sometime but it’s so worth it.

i understand the theory but look closly what he says

This is called the “plateau”. Generally, the velocity that provides the best trade off between power and efficiency with a regulated airgun exists about 95% below the plateau, hence the “95% Rule”.

Since our sweet spot is ~95% below our plateau we want our target velocity to be** 5%**??

wouldnt like he said you want to put your target velocity 95% below your maximum velocity.....seems like a bit much? and acculy 5% lower then your maximum velocity would make more sense?

does anyone know what hes talking about that could clear it up?

For regluated/unregulated PCP. Even Regluated PCPs will have velocity drop after every shot, but it will getting much better spread compared to unregulated ones. However once the pre-set regulator pressure is higher than the tube/bottle then you can see from your eyes that the pellet speed dropping dramatically after that point.
The regulated ones have flatter output and less fps spread, bit the shot count should have not much difference vs unregulated ones.
And for unregulated one you have to check and find best fps ranges vs air pressure by yourself, which we called sweet spot, and stick with that. And regulated ones saved this job, you can just shoot until its closed to the regulator pressure.

Makes sense to me.
