One other detail that I noticed quickly was with the trigger, I found it very squarish. With increased pressure point on the fingertip, which seems to effect accuracy for me. So I removed it from the rifle and took it to the drill press. I threw a tapered grinding stone in the drill press and slowly rolled the shoulders off the triggers face, creating a convex trigger face. Once roughed out with the stone, I then used drum sanders to finish it.

This really aided in a smoother squeeze, and no doubt was worth 30 mins of labour.

So just for fun I thought I’d do some pellet testing, to see if this stormrider liked any other pellets.

All groups were 6 shot groups @ 30yds
Geco 8.0gr wadcutters
Crosman destroyer 7.4gr
JSB 8.44gr (4.52) domers
JSB express 7.87gr domers
JSB heavy 10.34gr

The Red marked holes are the crosman destroyer pellets. This modded Stormrider absolutely hates them. And obviously the 10.34 is the Stormriders preferred pellet.

Yep~ so pellet testing is very necessary and interesting to do~

(seems I didn't hear any guns likes that Destroyer pellet before... )

We’ll just for fun if thought I push this stormrider and see what it’s capable of at 40yds. My first setup was using the primos tri-pod sticks which didn’t do well with the wind. I found myself moving too much. That group of 15 shots gave me about 1.5” group. So I setup a portable table and just supported the fore end, again not perfect but better then the sticks. The picture is the second group of 15 shots.

I think that's very good~ forget about the flyers and only need to count that big hole which reflects the ability of what your rifle can do~

So I had the stormrider apart to add a shim as I’m wanting to get the speed back up to 630fps. So I took a picture of the trigger blade so everyone can see how I have it setup. Before removing it I pulled out my trigger weight gauge. Well it breaks at 1lb.

Here's my .177 HW97 high power with a variety of pellets. The Crossman Destroyers weren't too bad at 20yards.
Is the Crossman HP the same as the Crossman Destroyer?

So after doing a lot of shooting with this Stormrider, I always noticed a heavy click just before the hammer engaged. This sound was coming from the guide spring finding it’s home in the pressure plates. The spring guide would seat in the pocket bored in the pressure plate creating the first click/clunk sound. Reason for this is I have a floating hammer spring when this AG isn’t cocked. So I have now eliminated the misalignment by epoxying the spring guide into the pocket of the pressure plate.

After shooting a few hundred pellets with the spring guide epoxied to the backing/pressure plate the action has smoothed out to perfection. Definitely a great mod for those who have a floating hammer spring. No more clunks. Another benefit I find is that adding shims onto the spring guide is quick and easy, no more need to hold multiple little parts, just remove the backing plate and add a shim and reinstall.

One other thing I’ve learned is always place any cut end of the hammer spring into the hammer and not against the spring guide, specially if you have shims. When I put the cut end toward the spring guide with shims installed, I think the cut end was digging into the shims and trying to drag them forward down the spring guide causing unwanted resistance during the shot cycle.

Final thoughts:

This is a very simple entry level air rifle with potential. If your one who enjoys tinkering, customizing and loves the mechanical part of airgunning. This rifle is worth a look.
