A dairy farmer’s cows weren’t giving as much milk as they had been, so the farmer called his local university for help. In fact, he’s so concerned that he asks for a biologist, a chemist, and a physicist to come out, study his farm, and make recommendations. So the three scientists come out, spend a day looking around and taking samples, and go back. A week later, the farmer gets their three reports.

The biologist’s report discusses the ecological community of different plants that the cows are grazing on, and recommends planting additional species for a broader and more varied diet.

The chemist’s report gives a detailed analysis of the cow’s feed, and recommends certain vitamins and minerals as supplements.

The physicist’s report begins, “Consider a spherical cow in a perfect vacuum. . .”
