Well after a long hiatus, I took a few minutes to construct a new target setup for paper targets.

I had purchased the Champion 22lr target trap some time ago. It’s been great for up to and including pal rated guns. I always struggled with how to mount it or where to place it. So, I came up with this. It’s nothing fancy, used some scrap bits I had laying around. Total extra cost to me - $0!

It’s basically just a perch with a tray for the trap to sit in up top. I made the top area larger than the trap itself with a lip in order to allow for the odd bounce back to still get retained. Sits on a 4x4 post for some stability and weight, with a small base for additional stability. It’s ultra portable, and works like a charm. I shot a few, and did not have a single pellet hit the floor.

I think I’ll add a bracket of some sort to the back of it in order to attach a backstop board just in case.

Not sure why I didn’t think of something so simple sooner.

A great solution to a problem most of us have. Love the tray design, suprising how many pellets escape the trap, and multi-purpose for other tasks. I'd be inclined to make the base larger but I'm clumbsy these days. I'd knock it over for sure.

I started with a larger base, whittled it down to this. The base is slightly larger than the photo suggests, at about 12”x14”. I can bump it pretty hard and it doesn’t even wobble. I played with the tray size as well, and this seemed to be a good balance of practical size vs function. Biggest thing was trying to keep it portable so I could move it around with ease.

I use my .22 pellet trap quite often. I completely tape the front opening and just tape targets to the tape. I use a plastic tape that is close to self healing. The tape is to keep any lead dust contained. I also only shoot on the top two thirds of the target to make sure everything stays inside. I took an old couch cushion and filled it with granulated cork and use it to go on the outside back, angled part of the target, to deaden the noise. Once the tape gets shot up, I remove it, discard the lead inside appropriately and re-tape.

Champion Bullet box fits into a milk crate just for future reference. Your stand looks good. Cheers!

It looks robust, great design.
But for me, in that location it would be a garage door opener, if you get the drift.

That's actually an inspiring design! Nicely done.

Looks fun to use as well.

I need for the backyard before it suffers lead poisoning. My backstop is next to our tomato garden.

Ha! I place a nice thick backboard behind the target for just that reason!

For me everything's perfect except I'd use a larger base plate.
