The 2023 Provincial Championship
At the Grenville FT Club
Sunday, October 1, 2023

The Provincials will be a 60 shot match, shot on 20 lanes with three targets per lane and one shot per target. "One and Done" format. We will offer all three divisions. Timers will be used, with four minutes for each shooter, to take three shots on each lane. The goal is to have a match as close as we can to a WFTF match. The match fee is $20.

There will be eight lanes marked with an asterisk on the scorecard, that have a spinner placed on the lane. You are allowed one shot on the spinner and if you hit it, you simply put a + beside the lane number. If you hit the most, there is a prize. If more than one tie for the most, we will have a draw to see who gets the prize.

On Sunday the 1st, the gates will open at 8:00 AM for setup and the sight-in begins promptly at 9:00 AM. Shooter’s safety meeting will be at 9:45 AM and the match will start at 10:00 AM. We will shoot all 20 lanes in one session

Shoot-offs will be held promptly after the match if there are any ties for medal positions. The shootoff will be on paper targets, with all tied shooters for a division shooting at the same time on their designated target. The winner is determined by the closest shot to the center bullseye. The medal presentation will follow and those that have a significant drive can be on their way.

If there are any changes in the agenda, these will be sent out promptly.

I have already created the sign in sheet, so please contact me as soon as you know for sure if you will or will not be able to attend.

Tim, Dave and Jeff

One week away and 10 shooters confirmed. I hope a bunch of folks have just forgotten to confirm.

Hi Tim. I will not be able to confirm until tomorrow, but it is looking like I will be able to make it.

Hunter- Springer.

Looks like we will have a number of regular HAHA shooters making the trip - outstanding!

Ontario Provincials 2023
At Grenville Fish& Game Club
Sunday, October 1, 2023

Another absolutely perfect day for field target was enjoyed by the 16 shooter who were able to attend. It was warm, sunny and only a hint of breeze made it through the trees from time to time. The 60 shot course was set on all 20 lanes, with three targets per lane and only one shot per target. This gives shooters an idea of what a WFTF match is like. As a bonus, there were eight spinners out on the course, in random locations, that were marked by an Asterix on the scorecard. After the three shots for score were taken, one shot at the spinner was allowed.

We had the sight in and shooter’s meeting and headed out to the course just after 10:00 AM. With nine groups of shooters, we were well spread out on the 20 lanes. The match progressed well with a lot of chatter and laughter and only a few, very brief, cold lines to clear debris off of targets. All targets functioned as they should, giving the match a nice flow. There were some small hit zones out there, particularly on the target seven chipmunk. It had a true quarter inch zone that was set out at ten yards. It was knocked down only once by Bill, on his first shot of the match no less. This target was inspired by Denis, who really enjoys small reducers. Not!!

At the end of the match, there were no tied scores that required a shoot off. Two shooters did tie in the fun side shoot, with both of them hitting all eight spinners. Bob and Tom spun them all and in true FT fashion, Tom requested that Bob be awarded the prize due to the fact that he was shooting a spring gun, making it a more difficult feat in his estimation. You are a gentleman, Tom. Bob was awarded a Crosman, ceramic, neck knife that put a smile on his face.

Awards were handed out to the class winners, as shown on the chart, and Jeff made some announcements about upcoming matches and Air Gun Meeting (AGM). The AGM will be held at the last match of the season at HAHA and more information will be sent out about that very soon.

The toughest part of a super day like this, is leaving. There was lots of discussion and visiting when all formal activities were done. From what I heard, this was an ideal day for a FT shooter. Good weather, a good challenging course, excellent competition and very importantly, there were great people to share it with.

Thanks to the GF&GC for allowing us to use this awesome facility, thanks to Dave, Blane and Stan for the great job on preparing the course, thanks to Mother Nature and mostly, thanks to all that attended, to create the day we all enjoyed. This wraps up the GF&GC FT match schedule for 2023.

Looking forward to other great times during the 2024 season. The Grenville match dates will be published soon.
