I love camping trips because strengthen relationships. Sharing tasks like gathering firewood, cooking, and telling stories around the campfire create lasting memories
and deepen bonds between friends and family. There's something about the beauty of nature that can make people more open and emotionally vulnerable,
making it easier to talk and heal old hurts.

When I was a kid, I dreaded camping.

It was basically an excuse for the adults to buy a truckload of beer, and sit around doing nothing for two weeks while us kids ran out of things to do. Occasionally the boozed up adults would go cut down a tree for firewood or search for a water spring.

There were no group activities, bonding, nothing ... just dudes getting drunk, women pretending to enjoy themselves while still having to do everything, and kids running around .. as the adult men continue to avoid whatever it is they were avoiding in their real lives.

Camping should have included hikes, learning about the wilderness, canoes, fishing, gun/knife safety, survival ...

... but nah, us kids ran around until our skin burnt then we'd ride out the next few days with major sunburns .. rinse , repeat. Camping trip only over once the booze ran out.

The grown "men" on my stepdad's side of the family were all worthless bums.

Camping was tainted forever in my mind because of those clowns. They were not robust, stand-up, woodsy kinda men. They were, as I said, bums.

The teenager in the house now doesn't want to do anything, so even if camping was a thing, he wouldn't want to. *sigh* (We've been a family for only 2 years.)

See what happens with bad dads? They can ruin even something as awesome as camping.

Well being as I am a "boomer", I have a much different outlook on camping. Growing up, we camped every weekend including winter hunting trips etc. Nothing was more fun than camping in a large tent however, things had become so commercialized that only the upper middle class can truly enjoy the camping trips today.

I purchased a 5th wheel then a motor home and found out quickly, my wife and I couldn't relive the camping trips of the past. Went back to tenting and my wife will have no part of it.
What a money racket it has become, I no longer have any interest in going anymore. LOL

Simpler times were much more enjoyable as far as I'm concerned. My passion is ice fishing and spending a night or two in a insulated heated tent and pan frying freshly caught fish. :drinkers:

LOL- Normk.

We used to camp quite a bit in Algonquin Park and a few times at Owen Sound (boys and men only),
then also at Granite Valley Lodge - Georgian Bay, I think. Loved it.

For years I've camped when elk and moose hunting - and camping at Black Powder Rendezvous for many years, all tenting,
except the since 2017, trailering now.
This is my view now, all summer. The little red Stryker is mine.

Solo canoe camping is the best.

Used to "camp" ..way back when...campers/tent trailer, etc.
Last ~25 years is/was backpacking...few people, if any, around.
4WD to the trailhead & 2-4 hours hike uphill -here in BC.
Tenquille lake, Lizzie lake, etc.
Minimalist "camping" ..tiny stove (rarely, if ever, fires)
Dig a hole for your duties, filter your water if & when you can find it.
I've come across WAY more game while hiking than ever going on a "hunting trip".
Deer walk up to the tent in the early AM, ..even with a dog.
Wolverines running across the trail in front of us, black bears sniffing around camp (cache your food HIGH).
Never brought a gun ..too damn heavy!
..my 2 cents anyway :D

I do not like camping since everyone with kids have no control and since smoke bothers me a lot and people have to have wood campfires at 30 degrees in August.

I like camping as I like to take photos and in the outside of the city core, I can always find something good and beautiful or special that I could use my camera or cellphone to record it...

However I don't like camping... Every time we go camping with family and friends, I am the major worker among a few from other families. Building tents, make fire, setting up things, cooking, servicing, packing up, babysitting.............. a holiday get away should be relaxing and letting you to recharge... And I am just being more tired than in a work day... :(

So now I more prefer to BnB and cottages... At least I can confirm a better sleep after the long day and living a bit more comfortable...

I don't consider it camping in my 42' fifth wheel 8 weeks a year. I have started going 2 weeks early and then my wife will fly into town. I now have a propane camp fire, instant on instant off and no smoke.

Sucks not to have a real camp fire when there is a ban, but the propane ones work well even inside a gazebo.

I agree, the propane ones are the way to go.
Nothing worse than choking on burning wet wood and flaming fireballs landing on your clothes.

My understanding, that's called glamping (glamour). If I had the space to park a RV at home I would likely percieve campsites as a possibility. In a tent? Nope. Been there done that and I'm done.
