Sadly, the 2023 HAHA FT season has come to a close. 18 shooters arrived early Saturday to have some fun at our world famous “FT Combo shoot”. The course was set up with two targets per lane over 8 lanes but only set out to a maximum of 25 yards. The match was shot first with pistols, and one could choose to shoot their pistol with a scope, a red dot, or for those with great eyes, open sights! Scoring was hunter style with two points for a knock down, 1 point for a face plate hit, and zero points for a complete miss.

In the “scoped” pistol group, 6 people entered. The odds were that someone shooting a PP700 would take the crown with 5 of the 6 contestants choosing this pistol to compete with. Congratulations to Tony L who had an impressive 52 out of 64 and Toby Z with a 50. The only Crossman in the group was shot by Tony R (great to see you back out) with his tricked out 2240 and a score of 41.

The red dot group were mainly Crossman people with 3 of 5 choosing that brand to bring to the event. Rob W shot an impressive 45 to take top prize followed by first time shooter Ted who used Rob’s HW44 pistol to score 42 – I think Ted will be back next year!!!

The open sight group had the smallest numbers but some pretty good scores! Congratulations to Nathan S with his Crossman 2300T taking the top spot with a 46/64. Brian W with a Webley came second with 44.

Once all the lanes were completed, we took a 10-minute break to case up the pistols, share our excuses and promise to do more practice for next year! Next, on to the rifle part of the competition. The same targets and lanes were shot, this time with either a red dot or open/peep sight rifle.

Four shooters brought red dot rifles. Chris H took top spot with his QB 79 with an impressive 55/64 while new shooter Ted took second with a 50 – again shooting Rob G’s FWB124. Rob, you are going to have to charge Ted consulting fee’s next time – you are an awesome coach!!!

The open sight rifle group was the largest of the day with 11 shooters choosing to compete bare eyes! Again, there was a heavy showing of German hardware with 8 of the 11 being either HW 35’s, 50’s or 80’s complemented with a pair of FWB’s. Top spot went to Brian W with a score of 62 using his FWB600 while Peter E had an impressive round of 55 with an Airforce Condor.

Once we finished pulling in the targets and putting away the gear one last time, we were invited to the “Zen” archery range for some BBQ burgers and sausages courtesy of our friends in Archery. We ate at the picnic tables under the gazebo while Jeff H conducted the Annual General Meeting (AGM). No new rule changes were put in place, and no new nominations came forward for the two board positions up for voting. Thank-you Tim M and Joel G for agreeing to stay on with the board for another 3 years. Your contributions to field target in Canada are many and I hope I can speak for all of the FT community; we sincerely appreciate your many years volunteering to make our sport amazing!!!
Stay tuned as we are working to secure an unofficial November fun day at HAHA – details will be posted on the Canadian Airgun forum and sent to those on the email distribution list. That’s all for now!
