Cool 8 bore - prohibited in Canada. 8 bore is nominally .835". 20 mm, the maximum size allowed at this time, is .7874".

They are used with a very heavy 'bullet' for breaking the scale off the insides of steel furnaces.

"used in industries such as steel industry where often times there is a need to remove excessive or built up materials (scale) from furnaces. As you can imagine, doing a manual work in such environments is not the quickest, easiest and safest job. That’s why they use these shotguns to do the job from a safe distance."

Thus, now in Canada, they are prohibited firearms, as are all cannons, including the signal cannon in Stanley Park in Vanvouver.
